Subject: O.T. - New Renderosity Ad banners

Quest ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 6:01 PM · edited Wed, 11 December 2024 at 8:58 PM

Well, it seems Renderosity has now taken to bombarding its members with non-graphic oriented ad banners. Must say, K&N is a good auto air filter. Wonder if we should start making 3D models of it? Almost like watching American TV!

tjohn ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 6:32 PM

Something of an improvement over some of the animated Poser stuff, though. :^)

Up there where all the banners show up, you guys see no banners or banners that are not related to Renderosity graphic sales?

I see graphic ads all 3D Related, Poser, Bryce etc..

Quest ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 9:16 PM

Hummmm, keep looking!

TobinLam ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 9:20 PM

I almost forgot there were ads I got so good at ignoring them and now you gotta bring them up! What few ads I do notice haven't been for anything outside the art community.

Incarnadine ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 9:27 PM · edited Sat, 16 April 2005 at 9:39 PM

Mozilla 1.7.3 here and only graphic banners so far. Update - about 25 refreshes on now and still only graphics related ads. Maybe you need a spyware scan?

Incarnadine, they are all graphic banners to be sure, but now I see non-Renderosity, non-graphic oriented ad banners as well. What does that signify? Not enough money? or they want more money?

Ok, here's a couple samples after refreshing the page. I was hoping to get back the one that advertizes N&N Auto filters (which I own...this, the filter not the company).

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 10:38 PM

non-graphic banner ads? I too have no idea what you're talking about. how about a screenshot? AgentSmith

25 refreshes and still nothing.

Quest ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 11:16 PM

LOLAgentSmith, enable graphics on your browser. Do you see the screengrabs I posted? Hey, you think maybe these are hijacks? Not on my system for sure Since Im totally protected from several dimensions, always updated and I check every week for spyware and bugs! If at all, the Renderosity servers, perhaps? Or is Renderosity starting to sell their space for profit?

There';s an IQ test one as well isn't there? Bondware is the company that hosts and owns renderosity, so that one doesn't surprise me.

No, really? You guys don't see any "outside" ads? Well, not all the time but from time to time?

Just one,..........something about "Howard Dean for President",............no, really,........nothing at all. (going back into cave to turn up theme music from Twilight Zone).

No non-graphic ads here after several refreshes. I did see this one though. Unusual ploy having the fonts backwards.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 12:53 AM

Sure, I see those ads at the top of the page, everyone does (normally) But, what do you mean by NON-GRAPHIC ads? I would define that as an ad with no jpg/gif. Yes? Btw, Bondware is Renderosity's parent company, and SongRamp is a Renderosity sister site. So, there ua go on those two. AgentSmith

So far, the only other eclusively non-renderosity ad I have seen is for Siggraph. Do you mean "Auto filters" as in Automobile? (just making sure) AS

CrazyDawg ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 1:18 AM

I think in all honesty the way R'osity are using the banners for other adds works well for me. I mean they do need someway to cover costs of running the site and maybe the server. I say well done Staff of R'osity, you have used something that was already there to aid you in your task. :) Now if you guys want to see bad use of adds on a site join the game site i'm an admin on...People with a trial account on there get something like 6 adds per page the go on..

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

Mahray ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 2:34 AM

Personally I don't look at the banners, so I wouldn't have a clue.

Quest ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 3:27 AM

Yes, AS, non-Rosity related ads is what I mean by non-graphic related and yes, like in car air filters in place of those ads.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 3:51 AM

Lol, wow. Car parts ads. I wish I could view all the stored ads somehow. ;o) AS

I haven't noticed any banners that didn't pertain to the 3D community either, but I also use firefox.

Quest ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 5:00 PM

There you go, I knew I wasnt going nutz, its just that I only started noticing them sometime last week. So why does Renderosity all of a sudden have a need to provide third party solicitors with real-estate space? Obviously they must be doing it for the members well-being and our need to be bombarded with unwanted crap.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 5:50 PM

Yeah, but I have to kind of side with Rendo, its absolutely ridiculous how much it costs for a site this size, and with its 3Tb of monthly bandwidth, etc, etc. So, I can see where any potential income would be a good thing to keep everything in the black financially. But, yeah, it would seem to be logical to keep the ads just artistic or computer related in nature. AS

Quest ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 6:23 PM

Well, to be fair, I do understand if its to curve rising expenses but why was there a need to start this late in the game? They hadnt resorted to this prior. Is this an indication of financial woes? I mean, if its woes and not greed, I can understand. And sure, it should be graphics oriented ads like for drawing tablets, render farms, printing services, software and the like.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 7:35 PM

I'm sure some of it is capitalization, meaning if we can bring in some extra money to the site with outside advertisers, I guess why not? I do see the point of only having ads that would relate directly to what we all do here. And, you would think getting the advertisers you want would be easy (on such a large site), its not always the case, unfortunately. (and strangely enough) AS

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 7:40 PM

And, its not all bandwidth, and server costs. There are other expenses. I mean, Renderosity made sure I had AMAZING access to Siggraph last year. They give away (I believe) one hundred free passes to Siggraph to members every year. Something like that. There are some other things they have done for staff. So, yeah, I guess that would make me a little biased, but still....car parts? Rofl... AS
