G'day Mates... I have read many Threads relating to LCD & TFT Monitors in the past, and offer this view and some buying Tips. I am not a Tech Person, but, I am a good Shopper! Nor am I disputing which is best , the big bulky Monitor or the Slim Slender one...sigh... for Me....the Eye problems and Headaches stopped, once I Purchased My first TFT Flat Screen Monitor, and I preferred looking at this Monitor....more than any I had previously seen(the Big Monitors...Fatty) It is now common place that a reasonably Priced Computer, will come Packaged with a 19'' Flat Screen. Some People of course are buying these Flat Monitors as a Single Unit.....and now, I offer a Purchase Tip. There appears to be a different Standard, depending on the Company that makes the Monitor, as to how many Pixels in the Screen must be "blown", before the Warranty kicks in, and You can say....."I have a fault....can You fix it under the Guarantee?" But...Your Brand New Monitor....which burned out ...say 4 Pixels in 4 Months......You have to wait until You burn out 7 of these Pixels before the Guarantee sets in....yep.....this is a small Print matter....different Brands have different strokes for different Folks. It is important to ascertain, when Purchasing, what is the "Blown Pixel Level" of the Monitor, before it is covered by Warranty? Once a couple of Pixels do go....and You work and look at dark Images....that Red Glow....can sure look an Eye Sore. So there....Food for thought...and, it cost You nothing....and You did not have to physically threaten Staff of a Store like I did, to get My Monitor replaced....because it blew 4 Pixies in 6 Weeks.....and.....the Small Print said....7 was the Minimum....for Conditions of...Guarantee. If people get headaches from CRT's it's usually because they never look at the refresh rate and leave it at default, which in turn is usually set at 60Hz. I've 'upgraded' several friend's monitors by just setting the refreshrate to 85Hz. They all told me they no longer get headaches. So this is my advice to people who just want a TFT because they get headaches from their monitor, check your refreshrate: Desktop properties, settings tab, advanced button, monitor tab. Try a higher refresh rate if your monitor supports it. That just may be your trouble.

i have flat screen and luv it. and i know what you mean about that pixel scam. but we got a guarantee that covers that. i can't remember excactly the details. too sleepy. good you point that out to others!

Had this problem fixed by the constructor of my first flat screen...This morning with gamma I refesh one of my duo screen...by the way never had headaches...before was with Macintosh....may be why....Nice posting sharing Tedz....Salute

There was a time when dead pixels were supposed to be zero and I gather they breed so I guess once you have them they continue until the monitor is unusable Why I have not got one as yet There is less glare on them which may account for the lack of headaches, but has been said the refresh rate of of 85 to 100Hz is by far the best way to overcome that problem CRT monitors whilst bulky are far better in this regard, and also offer a finer dot pitch resolution most LDC/Flat panel ones are only 0.29 ..Whoops slipping into techno babble lol!! The space saving and ergonomics do make them attractive but I like em big and sharp .. Good point about getting an idea before purchase

Well I use 2 monitors one TFT(for general use) and one flat screen CRT(for image editing) I do have a good refresh rate but still feel that the TFT is much easier on the eyes, as the screen is matt and not glossy, so very little in the way of glare. No dead pixles either, guess I got lucky.

ekkkkkkk technical talk.. total bimbo on that subject..all l know is mine is 21 inches chucky fat monitor..and real easy on the eye... and prefer it to a lap top flat screen monitor.... now l wont embarass my self further... sighes...

No dead pixels on my Hyundai either. I did alot of research before buying it looking for people complaining about dead pixels, and didnt find many venting their anger. As with anything you spend your hard earned cash on, research research research! I wouldn't go back to a CRT now...I like this extra room I have, and that I can get my monitor under my arm when ferrying my PC. Still, the extra real estate on a 1600 x 1200 CRT would be nice ;)

at work i buy the computer equpment and have changed most of the crts for tfts, same at home. not one has ever suffered a single pixel loss. we must be lucky. our supplier would kill me if i tried to physically threaten him though. daakhors
