THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Bryce Members meeting in NYC update

Ang25 ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 7:23 AM ยท edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 10:41 PM

OK looks like we've got a few people who can make it. This is the list I've got so far.
Quest
Ang
Sackrat
Madmax
Miden
Weirdass
I thought I'd start a new thread in case anyone else is interested (the other one is getting buried.)
OK So I've requested May 14th off from work. I'm planning on taking the bus in and if I can crawl out of bed early enough I hope to catch the 4:50 am bus (ACK!). It gets into NYC around 10am. My next decision will be whether or not to make my trip a 2 day affair. I'd need to find reasonably priced lodging and somehow I don't picture NYC as being reasonable, lol.
Mitch - aka weirdass, brought up a point about not knowing each other. We could all wear bryce caps, lol. But seriously, some of us have seen photos of others http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1187525
And once we get things set, we will have a very specific location and time to meet up at. And there are probably other things as well that we can discuss in private, that will help insure none of us gets lost (like me). apologies, I can't remember how to make a link inside a post :(

I'm making a special trip to Amsterdam this fall to meet Rayraz, :-D

sackrat ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 2:15 PM

I'll be the one wearing the blue plaid Ren and Stimpy ballcap and a "Buffalo Bills Football" T-shirt. We could have someone (Quest) standing with a sign like they do at the airport. A secret handshake ? A wink and a nod ? A silly walk ?

Would love to get conformation from those who know for sure theyll be coming and what times theyll be making their grand entry and where. That way we can have a working knowledge of how to plan the whole thing and where to meet. And if anybody is planning to stay overnight, maybe we can find some reasonably priced lodgings under the same roof for everyone. Youll get more reasonably priced lodging outside Manhattan proper, in the surrounding boroughs like in Queens, near the airports as opposed to the midtown tourist trap. Only problem there is commuting. Depending on how many people, I wouldnt mind at all driving you guys around. I could only stuff so many people into my Jeep Grand Cherokee. If anyone needs to find out what hotels are available near the airports, let me know, Ill try and get that information out to you. Ang, you getting in by bus, is that at the Port Authority Terminal on 42nd Street at 10:00A.M.? Get plenty of sleep on the bus!

Yeah, count me in. I'll make plans for the 14th, and possibly the 15th. As to where...hmmm...dunno. What's a really easy place to find in New York? :^)

Quest ( ) posted Mon, 18 April 2005 at 6:40 PM

Well, would need to know how you plan on getting here, train, plane, bus or driving and what time youll approximately be pulling in? If Youre flying, then youll most likely be getting in by way of LaGuardia Airport or JFK International which are both in Queens NY. Or maybe Newark airport in New Jersey then shuttling over the bridges and tunnels.

If youre taking a train then you might be pulling into Grand Central Station on 42nd Street or Penn Station on 34th Street.

If youre taking a bus, then the Port Authority Bus Terminal on 42nd Street might be your destination.

If youre driving or just generally planning on meeting everyone at a pre-selected area then we need to decide how and where were going to spend our day and select a meeting hub based on that.

Ang is planning to come by bus but shes not sure yet where the bus will let her off, chances are itll be Port authority Terminal and be getting here at 10:00 A.M. If she likes, I could meet her there and pick her up. If you guys are planning to bus then chances are youll be pulling in there also. If thats the case, and if the time of arrival is within reason, then I can pick all three of you up there. If youre taking the Amtrak train service in then chances are youll be pulling into Penn Station. And if youre getting in about the same time as Ang, I could swing around, with Ang in tow, and pick you up there.

If none of this is convenient for anyone, then if we decide to take in Central park, the Museum of Natural History, Hayden Planetarium then we can make the steps in front of the American Museum of Natural History, right by the statue of Teddy Roosevelt on horseback, our meeting hub. If we decide on something else, then we must plan our meeting hub accordingly.

LOL, I feel like a broken down car (In tow) ;P I called the bus company, yep I just need to show up before the bus leaves and I'm all set, and after I hung up I realized that I had no idea where the bus will drop me off. So tomorrow I will be calling back to find that out. gawd somedays being blonde is so not fun. :P

Quest ( ) posted Mon, 18 April 2005 at 11:14 PM

ROFLwell, you dont actually think Im gonna let you ride inside my Jeep do you? Bring your skateboard and Ill lash you onto the back bumper. Just kidding here and playing off of your comment Ang! Bad choice of words on my part. Did someone mention bringing their spouse? That would be a good thing to mention so that we can get enough skateboards for everyone. LOL

I would say the more the better and thats your call but if too many people are coming I obviously cant provide space for everyone in my Jeep so if I know this, I could give clear and fairly concise directions on how to commute via subway to the meeting destination. Still we need to know where in the City you will be pulling into. When youve decided for sure, IM your email addy to me and Ill forward my personal home and cell phone numbers in case you run into any problems getting to the destination or fall behind the time.

Ang, not to worry, I have blond days too! ;)

Rayraz ( ) posted Tue, 19 April 2005 at 2:36 AM

Rayraz, you stay away from me on those blond days if you know what's good for ya! ;)

Ang25 ( ) posted Tue, 19 April 2005 at 6:02 AM

;P I don't skateboard well, can I be a hood ornament instead?

Quest ( ) posted Tue, 19 April 2005 at 4:26 PM

ROFLMAO! Ang, Im not going to say anything to detract from that visual. But a cautionary warning does apply, hold on tight to the windshield wipers on fast turns and breaking!

Ang25 ( ) posted Tue, 19 April 2005 at 8:53 PM ยท edited Tue, 19 April 2005 at 8:56 PM

Lets hope its not raining! LOL, the wipers could be slippery.
Ok, I'd really like to stay the night, so I'm hoping that others will as well. It would make it less stressful during the day, not to have to worry about catching a bus back home.
:-) ps, good thing I've got a neck, it certainly helps me keep track of where my head is at. OK so I remembered to call the bus station, it is the port authority station where I will be getting in. Took me a while to remember to let you guys know, lol.
