Today's special at PoserPros is a ferret by Dodger. But it's labeled for P4/PP only. What are the "issues" with P5/6?

xoconostle ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 6:27 PM

Released at last! Sheesh, I was almost ready to call PETA. By the way, that's not a ferret, it's a "forum weasel." ;-)

guarie ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 6:39 PM

The issues are the tip of the tail loads in broken off and the mouth loads in crushed up into the head (it doesn't respond to thr morphs to bring it down). I've messaged Dodger to see if we can get this fixe but I've not heard anything from him.

randym77 ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 6:44 PM

Something's weird. I bought it, and it loads into P5 and P6 just fine. Tail's perfect, mouth is perfect. But none of the head morphs works. I tried it in PP, and it's exactly the same. Looks fine, but none of the head morphs work. Do you have to inject them first or something?

guarie ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 6:51 PM

It worked for myself and the tester in P4. But in P5 and in P6 it loaded in the way I described. Hopefully Dodger will be able to sort this out for everyone. I wanted this set in Poser 6 myself.

nickedshield ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 7:21 PM

I'm with randym77, no head morphs work in PP. Issues, Yes I think it does have them.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Byrdie ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 7:39 PM · edited Sat, 16 April 2005 at 7:40 PM

I just bought this little guy on even the off-chance that he'd work, since I don't render on the P5 engine (didn't know the issues were with the morphs, thought it might be a texture thing). I really need an Amazing, Bouncing Ferret -- you HP fans know what I mean ;-) Guarie, please chain Dodger fast to his desk if ya gotta, until he gets this critter right.

P.S. I would have suggested bribing him with chocolate but I dunno if he's got a sweet tooth. ;-p

Hmmm, I've used stuff marked for Pro Pack and I have Poser 5, and to my knowledge there wasn't any problems. There are a few more things in the "free" area that I want, and that sale ends this week coming, so for 99 cents in order to get a nice free item....

I don't think the problem is P5. Something's odd about this model. I imagine it will be fixed. If Dodger doesn't fix it, someone else probably will. :-)

Ferret ?? FERRET !!!!!!..dashes off to look :)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 2:05 AM

Damnity! I was avoiding the sale and the promotion (I don't need anything for characters I haven't unzipped or purchased), and there is plenty in my folders that I haven't worked with yet... so only acquiring items needed for specific images. But... I. want. a. ferret. And a badger. And a groundhog. And an ermine. :deep sigh: He'll probably want to come home in a sailing ship instead of a pet carrier. Carolly

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 2:18 AM

I'm disappointed to hear of the problems. How does Poserpros handle this sort of thing? Can I buy the broken version in the sale, and expect to get a free upgrade later?

guarie ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 2:20 AM

We're working with Dodger right now to try and fix whatever the issues are. We will update everyone's purchases once we have him working correctly. Hopefully in all versions of Poser.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 2:37 AM

Thanks for the prompt response.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 4:54 AM

Dooooooon't tempt me! :(

spinner ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 5:47 AM

The PP IM notifier has a nasty habit of randomly notifying you there's an IM in your inbox - If there wasn't a prompt reply, you could have popped by at XFX and prodded him, Guarie - the first he heard of it was another forumite mentioning it there... No offense and all that, just pointing it out in case he responds slowly to something else in the future :-) ~S

dialyn ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 8:11 AM

Ferret morphs don't work in Poser 4 either. Love Daio's textures (those are an extra purchase). I agree with Carolly, I'd love to see badger, a groundhog., and other little beasties.

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 8:21 AM

When the solution is found, somebody post it. I'm really curious about what could cause such an odd array of problems.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 8:28 AM

I had a furkle through the .cr2 and didn't find anything obviously different, compared to working figures. It poses, but doesn't morph. It might be something buried in the .obj, grouping or materials. Speculating, a different whitespace character, or the wrong case. But the eyes, when you look closely, seem to be in the wrong place. Meerkats...

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 8:30 AM

I've noticed the eyes move when you apply the Pine Marten morph. Nothing else changes, but the eyes move.

nruddock ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 8:46 AM

The numbDelta values are wrong in the morphs that aren't working (i.e. they don't match the number of vertices in the geometery).

Something similar happened to the Spellbound item.

In both cases people who made textures have got working versions, but the timestamps on the CR2s and OBJs are oddly different.

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 8:56 AM

But what would cause the ferret to load with a broken tail and squashed face in P5, but not P4?

And I have to assume that the PoserPros testers were testing a different version, because no one else seems to have that problem, even in P5...

Marque ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 9:49 AM

Get it now while it's on sale girl...later it will be fixed and you will have to pay full price. Besides there are a lot of items in the free area that are pretty cool. Marque BTW loved the party! Thanks again, we both had a great time.

gryffnn ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 10:10 AM

A Ferret? Do I need a ferret? Do I want a ferret? Oh, dang, now they've got me too. Sigh, another site to keep track of. . .

I went ahead and bought him. Couldn't resist.

Couldn't fix the morphs, either, but even if Dodger never gets around to it I can create my own. This was rendered in Poser 6, incidentally.

dialyn ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 11:22 AM

The bow tie is a nice touch. :)

Daio ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 12:24 PM

The version I used to do the texturing has working head morphs (at least in P4 - didn't test the morphs in P5 or P6). I sure they will get everything fixed. Texturing the ferret certainly made me nostalgic for the fuzzies I've had in my life. But with 10 cats right now I think I will stick to model fuzzies for awhile. ;)

XFX3d ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 12:36 PM

From Dodger: "I have requested a copy of the final release for examination and will find whatever is wrong." The figure was, incidentally, beta tested in P5 by two testers, so this has come as a surprise. We'll have all the bugs ironed out in SR1. (No, really, WE will!)

I'm the asshole. You wanna be a shit? You gotta go through ME.

freyfaxi ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 4:07 PM · edited Sun, 17 April 2005 at 4:08 PM

There may be problems (I've not had chance to play with the lil fella yet..but then again, I'm still using P4), but for 99 cents..what have you got to loose ? A bargain at that price :)

I'm uploading the fixed version now. :) Thanks to Dodger he's working like a charm now.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 7:46 PM

He's already off sale... so I'm safe. For now. Marque, Glad that you enjoyed the party... it was great meeting you at last! :)

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 7:50 PM

They've hinted that at the end of the April Foolery sale, we'll all get one last chance at the items we may have missed. ;-)

Thanks, Dodger. Consider youself unchained -- unless you're into that sorta thing! ^^ ;-)
