THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Ever had one of those Bryce moments

You ever had one of those moments where you are doing something in bryce and your mind wanders off causing you to change everything in the scene. well i did lastnight, the image you see is from the wip i started with the castle/fort on the hill. Now no matter how many times i look at it i know there is something not right with it, after sitting here working on it, looking at it, drinking more coffee than i would normally and only have 2 hours sleep i have finally come to my wits end with it.. HELP ME PLEASE, what looks out of place in this..

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

A lighthouse on the left side of the image, the high peak piece of the mountain. A bit too much fog in the distant. Besides that it looks very nice, just a nice finished render would probably look nice. Very nice idea. And ohh yeah, my mind been wondering off while making an image, I think thats when U get the best of it, lol. Nice work...

IMO the haze and ambience settings are too high. You might try one render with "gamma correction" disabled in the render options.

the sky could use some more caracter, and I think the wide open water doesn't seem to fit in the composition yet. Also the terrain and the castle are fighting to be the vocal point and the size of the ship seems too large in comparison to the size of the castle. also the ship could maybe be placed somewhere else or maybe even left away all together. Also the sky and lighting could be a bit more 232% less then. Just a few things to possibly fiddle with :)

Your subjects all land in the center of the image. The leading perspective of the foreground terrains, the castle, and the ship. It confuses the viewer. Try turning your camera left or right which will place the castle on one side or the other, and place the ship coming or going in reference to the castle.( a bit smaller ship too) The components look great. Check this out, probably one of the best visual composition tuts out there.

YOur tree/grass lookes like post work. The horizon line is way to thick which draw ur attention away from the boat and fort. The haze i think should be a little thicker so u have a larger contrast. But i agree with ICM you shouldn't have them both in the middle

CrazyDawg ( ) posted Wed, 20 April 2005 at 9:17 AM

Brog no post work done in it, they are 2d trees. Thanks everyone for your help on this, now before i do anything else on it i'm going to take some strong painkillers, get some sleep and hopefully by the time i begin work on it again the pain in my lower back will be gone. @Rayraz, the sky needing character is the one thing i have had trouble with, no matter what sky i use or tweak for some reason it doesn't look right on the image. Anyway if you don't hear from me for a couple of days its because i'm laid up with my back and these painkillers i'm taking will have made me to tired to do anything.

Rayraz that sky is awesome. Also could you let me know how you got the water to look like that.. the one i use in my image is hmmm flat and boring...gives no life to the image..

I used a wave map that lordstormdragon made a while ago. He was asking about the water too I think. I mixed lsd's wave map with a riged fractal from the terrain editor and roughly tiled the terrain a number of times. If you want I could send you the bryce file. just IM me your e-mail (an e-mail addy that supports larger files preferably)
