my grandmother asked me to see what i could do with some old photos of hers thought i'd post them here just to show though i'd appreciate any tips or advice - i've never done this before also i don't have photoshop these first ones are very faded, but when i adjust the brightness and contrast all the imperfections are intensified also so i'll try cloning them out first

yes... a lot of patience & time needed...
cloning, especially if you don't have PS's healing brush...

i ran a search in the [search] with the opening of the photo forum... & typed in "restoration"... several good threads popped up, may take some time to sort them out though

would help to know what editing program you are using? PSP?

there are others here who have done some great work in restoration... sure some of them will be along shortly with some help :]

I am not competent to restore pictures myself but I have alittle bit of common sense advice: 1. Make sure you do not dammage the originals further, be careful when scanning (at the higheest possible resolution) or you might want to photograph them if they are too delicate. Once you have a useable copy you can worry about new prints. Sorry about not being more helpful.

Cloning is definitely a good way to go IMHO! That's what I always use to correct/remove imperfections in a pic! But surely there's other ways, maybe more efficient! Let's wait for the experts here, and see what they say! ;)

For some real fine cloning or even smudging the scratches out. view the image as large as possible to see each pixel and try to smooth the same colours pixel by pixel. Then view smaller to see if it is to satisfaction. The healing brush in PS is maybe one of the best.Bit smudge brush and cloning in PSP work adequate.
