Anyone else hooked on the HBO series Deadwood? Love this series!

While receiving my weekly 2 hour intravenous IV and reading my Dan Browns novel Angels & Demons, the nurse came in and asked if Ive seen Revelations a new NBC TV mini series to which I was clueless about. Well, I watched it last night at my moms house and I was totally intrigued. I now plan to watch the rest of the series. Anybody else into this series? Also wondering if anyone out of States have access to these.

Anyone reading Dan Browns books? Im almost finished with Angels & Demons and already bought the next book in the series featuring the antagonist character of Robert Langdon The Da Vinci Code. Good read but know its fictional. He has a couple others and wondered how they fair: Deception Point and Digital fortress. Anyone acquainted with these? Just thought I'd ask.

Not interested in Revelations and don't know anything about Dan Brown, but yep, I'm a die-hard Deadwood fan. I'm also a die-hard HBO Carnivale fan, which I think Revelations (with its more religious tones) is trying to emulate.

Interesting Aprilgem! Have you seen any parts of Revelations? Do you not like it because of its religious context or just dont like the way its being presented? I watched most of Carnivales first season series but began to loss interest in it towards the end. I felt the plot was being dragged out way too slowly for my liking. Whereas Revelations is a fantasy using the bible as the backdrop and so most of the story so far is holding to passages in the bible and can be traced to them lending an air of mystery and apocalyptic intrigue. Deadwood gives you a sense of real people caught in the historical turmoil of the times. A sense for the colloquial and formal speak of the time, the pervasive ideals and misery of the time. Its almost like watching a reenactment. I just love it. A period classic in my estimation.

I haven't seen either of the shows mentioned, but I did enjoy the Da Vinci code and Angels and Demons. I don't have much time to read, so I haven't gotten to Dan Brown's other books yet. There is a church in Scotland mentioned in the Da Vinci code that if I have time I'd love to see when I go to Europe. :-D

I have read all 4 dan brown books. Deception point and digital fortress are very dissapointing compared to Angels and Demons and Da Vinci Code. Took me three attempts to get through Deception point and I normally finish a paperback in around 2-3 nights max. Ang25 - The church is Roslyn Chapel and its just outside Edinburgh. Used to be you could wander round the whole thing at any time but they have started running tours round the building to manage the increased number of visitors (think has been they for centuries and NOW they limit visitors????? go figure) Have not seen the TV programmes mentioned.

Read all the Dan Brown books. A&D and DVC both deal with similar themes while the other two go off in other directions, though the cliff hanger type plots ARE similar. Deception Point is cool if you're into technology...very cool. Digital Fortress is more for math and/or computer types.

Mmmm... Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons over Deception Point and Digital Fortress really.

I like "Revelations",........I like Bill Pullman as an actor, that's what drew me to it in the first place. It's a bit heavy-handed sometimes,.........probably the writing. Don't get HBO, so I've never seen "Deadwood". If anyone liked "The Da Vinci Code",........go look for a novel by Umberto Ecco called "Foucalts Pedulum"(spelling),.......you might enjoy this as well.

hmm..saw a thing on the History Channel (the 'Religious' one, not the 'what, Modern Marvels again?' one..;), where they thought the original book of Revelations might have been a sly attack on Nero..who knows..haven't gotten the Da Vinci code one yet (I think I've read more in reviews than the actual book has in pages..;) It can't be any more heavy-handed than the Left Behind movie (remember when Michael York was a sign it was gonna be a good movie, rather than a clunker?..;)

Da Vinci code was extremely well written, I have A&D but I don't have time to read it. School currently has me finishing up To Kill a Mockingbird and beginning Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

I saw the numerous promos for Revelations and simply didn't have any interest in seeing it -- religious or not. It seemed like a cheap knock-off of Carnivale, which has rich and stunning cinematography, make-up, costume, great acting, and a plot you can't predict. Next to Carnivale, Revelations just seemed mediocre; I could see it in the promos.

However, I knew that Revelations would be popular because of the religious overtones. I get the feeling that sometimes, that's all it takes to launch a book or a movie into best-selling or box-office-hit status -- add some religious themes to it. I love Carnivale because it's spectacular on its own; religion is only a very small part of the interplay between good and evil.

It's too bad you lost interest in it. The online forum that discusses the show on the HBO site is alive and well with regular visitors who continually dissect the symbolism and plot. I have a hard enough time keeping up with the show (if you miss even five minutes, you miss A LOT; that's how intricate the plot is) without also keeping up with people's interpretations of it, but some of the posts were interesting to read.

As is obvious, I'm a very big fan of Carnivale. :)

Artbyphil, then youll love the second season of Deadwood. Already it has more action drama in it than the first. Aprilgem, I dont see one being the rip-off of the other. I see them as 2 distinct productions not in any way related but thats my take. Oh, no doubt, when Carnivale first came out the freakiness and undercurrent of the supernatural peaked my curiosity and I watched several episodes, I liked the settings and costume design, another period extravaganza. As it went on though, my interest started to wane until eventually I missed a couple episodes then couldnt get back into it. I did manage to see the last episode, at least I think its the last episode. The same thing might happen with Revelations, I only caught the last episode of that, missed the first so Im hanging in some places but liked it. The Carnivale series is finished, right? Are they expecting another season do you know? The HBO Deadwood site is also abuzz with fans. So, as far as Dan Browns books go, Deception Point and Digital Fortress are iffy at best? Thanks, thats what I wanted to know before I made the expense.

No, the Carnivale series isn't finished. The season finale ended with an unpredictable twist and a cliffhanger after certain elements were revealed, all of which leads me to believe there will be another season.
