#2 looks good. Maybe a little drop shadow on the bird.

hmmm license on the letters used depends on the font you're using for the letters I think? but you could probably make your own letters :) Maybe use a font that's a bit easier to read? If you want to copyright your own work, just put a copyright mark on it and you're done. To copyright text or such you could sent it to yourself in a closed envelope and have it so that the recepient (which would be yourself) has to sign in order to be able to accept the mail. Then leave the envelope closed. That's how it works overhere anyways. It's a little vague though... Also, since this stuff is for school, I think that in the papers that were signed to get you on that school of yours there may very well have been a clause which states that the school has the exploitation rights on everything you make for school. In which case you might not be able to prevent the school from exploiting your work.

the font's a little hard to read (but at my age..;) As for 'free' copyright..I don't know if this qualifies (work done for hire..go by the Product Showcase forums, there's folks who will know better. Last I checked (about 15 years ago), you could copywrite something for about $10. You can download the forms from the Library of Congress, I believe..

Certainly the legibility of the type is an issue. If its for an educational institution, I would go with a more traditional or more conservative typeface. As it stands, the logo looks great (if your in a motorcycle gang or a competing Empire of Romulans) But I'm sure the other students will love it, good job.

As for Copywriting. Don't sweat the small stuff. I've given away tons of designs for free over the years, and not one of them would have garnered me a serious dime in copywrite residuals.

Definitely go with the second one...the name spelled out is better than just the initials. On the first one I mistook the C for a T. A font change might be in order there.

I have to agree that font legibility is always one of the most important considerations as far as logo design(unless it's for a music group, then all bets are off) and that font is not very legible. As far as the inspiration... I used to have a Pontiac Firebird back in my "salad days" and the hood decal treatment was very similar to your graphic.

great job Rayraz. the adminstration, decided to change the font, to Caligrapher (i think) the 'bird' its self is what i want copyrighted. the idea came from a Smirnoff Vodka bottle. oh the wonders of google....

hmmm..just don't let it get too close to the Smirinoff thang, or some angry Canadians (I think that's the current owners) might come calling about their copwrite..;)

Scoleman, your image is already copyrighted. Look up the copyright laws, and you'll find that the date stamp here in this forum alone is enough to win in court! Don't sweat the small stuff, and I think you've made an excellent design here! Show us the final product when it's done?

Any worries about copyright can be discussed with dozens of people in the Copyright forum. Cooler hangs around there a bit (the copyright bloke from daz).

Heheh... Exactly what a high school needs for their image. 8D I'd wonder what different people would think when they catch the similarity. lol... The blue on black looks cool... If possible, clean up the vector shape for the flames. There's a really thin edge that breaks up what could be a single shape. And why not place the text such that it forms a circle around the logo? Maybe it's too cliche in regards to the name? I still think that the space around it would be adequate to allow text placed in a circle to balance out nicely.
