Subject: Little Rant: I am a littlebit tired of it...

Arvanor ( ) posted Wed, 27 April 2005 at 4:58 AM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 8:44 AM

First off all, i love to do images with Poser.I love it,to include various characters in my images.I consider myself a strong buyer with alone over 300 products here at Renderosity, not to count DAZ3d,RDNA,PoserPros and 3DCommune but and here comes the message,i hate to see it that most characters that enter the different marketplaces are so often only a collection of different merchant resources.I want to buy a product that is really created by the merchant and i am not interested if it is a new or an old merchant.I give everyone a chance to get my hardearned money! The second thing i hate to see, there are so many characters (mostly V3 based) that all look 90% the same and the only difference is Makeup, nailcolor or eyes.So called custommorphs are fine but if all characters look the same i get tired of it and make my own injects. So why to buy characters if they not satisfy my needs?Do many merchants only think, they put together some merchant resources and earn money without limits?I do not think so!Good merchants are many times ignored, they have to invest more time into their products if they do not use merchant resources.I think that is very sad,if they cannot compete really with the others who only use merchant resources.First thing i do,is following the readme link of a product and reading the contents.I for myself will not buy anymore of those merchant resource based characters.Spend some time to learn how to build a character based on photos, then clients like me will happily spend their money on it!I think,i am not the only one who thinks so.Selling cheap is nice but cheapness kills quality! Please dont take this as an offense, take it as a wish from one of those persons who buys stuff. And forgive me my bad english. Yours Marko

If by my life or death I can protect you, I will!

No need to apologize for your english--you made your point and that's what matters. Just as it takes time to skim the galleries to find images in which creators have invested time and creativity in (as opposed to flipping a few dials and simply illustrating their big breast fantasies) it takes time to find the merchants who offer quality merchandise. It's all part of "the quest."

I agree. Shop smart. Don't encourage the clone packages by buying them.

I think your english was quite fine. No need to apologize. I agree with you that there are too many characters that look too much alike. Different eyes and nails and a few facial tweeks. But, I don't give them much time. There are some merchants I give extra attention to (AS Shanim and BlackHearted are two examples that come to mind quickly and have released characters lately). I'm sure everyone has their favorite merchants, as I do, though, so I don't mean to say there aren't other really unique characters that have been developed out there recently. As I've said before, how many "Vickies" does a person need? What we need are more of Stonemason's, Moebius87's, SanctumArt's, and DavoRama's (to name a few of my favorites) props to "flesh out" all those "Vickies" (wink).

I like the characters A_ has created out of Vickie...her head morphs really put a completely new 'person' on the model, ""Vickie"" disappears. I like her Earwyn, Robin and also Marisol. ::::: Opera :::::

@ChuckEvans I agree with you. This is a great problem.I am many times in need of great props, scenes, weapons, hair, vehicles and so on!

"Shop smart" That's the best advice. Each pack has a ReadMe which will tell you how the merchant created the pack.

@SamTherapy Yep smartshopping is the only way. I hope that many merchants think about their way of handling their products.I know it is very hard sometimes to create something. But i think it is a duty for the creator that the potential clients get someting of real value that you are willing to use many times. I only wanted to make this fact clear.Nothing more.Just my opinion. And i am glad that this thread is not noted as some kind of witchhunting.:-) Marko

Caveat Emptor, let the buyer beware.

blaufeld ( ) posted Wed, 27 April 2005 at 1:27 PM

Arvanor, I disagree with your opinion. Why? Simple: my money is hard-earned too, so I'm very selective about what to buy. I spend it only on somethings that strikes my fancy: if it's based on a merchant resource, but it incorporates many tiny and interesting details (tattoos, blemishes, imperfections, you name it) I don't care and I buy it... and if some other merchant put up a completely original product that's PLAIN BORING, your bad, you don't deserve my money nor my time, and you better think how to improve your product. No one has the need of another "completely handpainted" pale pink skin with red nails, black mascara and green eyes...

@Blaufeld Hmm tattoes? I do them with postwork,a brush in Photoshop or i draw it myself.Sure,i accept your opinion.Fortunately thats the advantage of Democracy.:-)

Hrm. I think this is yet another one in an infinite number of things that there is really no point in complaining about. But what do I know?
