Subject: Help needed with Aiko 3.0

Emanaia ( ) posted Thu, 28 April 2005 at 9:37 PM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 9:47 PM

I downloaded the character Aiko 3.0 for Poser 6. It had 2 files: A base file and a .sit file. I put everything from the base file where I thought it should go, but I do not know where the sit file should go. Also, when I pull her up in figures I only get one which has a red body suit on insead of getting one that is nude that I can cloth. I can add a map to the 1st one which creates a nude figure but then I can not add clothes to her. What do I do? Thanks for your help!! :)

From where did you download? .sit is a StuffIt archive (like .zip is a WinZip archive).

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

Sounds like it's working right. She does come in with that red bodysuit on.

Did you buy or download any clothes for her? You won't be able to dress her if you didn't. She doesn't come with any clothing, just the bodysuit MATs. P.S. You don't need the .sit file unless you are a Mac user.

The sit file is simply the Mac version of the exe. Its contents are exactly the same except formatted for Mac.

To answer all, I downloaded her from Daz. Someone else I know downloaded her from there (she is the one that sent me the link) and said there was more than one body model, one being nude. For the life of me I can't find it. If its a case where that is the only one, how do I take off the body suit and clothe her? I did buy a clothes pack for her version and the only thing it will come up under, or show under in my poser program is poses but when I double click on a dress while she is in the body suit, the body suit is not compleyely covered, for example, on the sholders because the dress has straps instead having sleeves, if that makes sense. When I use conform, the dress does conform but still doesn't cover the suit. I can not click on the suit and delte it like I owuld other pieces of clothing. It just won't go away. When I use the map on her, she becomes a nude figure but then I can not add clothes. The actual poses I have work fine with her as well as the hair pack I got. LOL I'm sorry if none of this makes sense. It is early herer and probably haven't had enough coffee. :)

Your friend was confused. There is only one body model. The free version of Aiko comes with "MAT files" - pose files that change her textures. So you can texture her so she's nude, wearing a bodysuit, etc. It looks like clothes, but it's really just her skin colored to look like skin-tight clothing. (Which is why you can't delete it.)

To remove the red bodysuit, look for the Aiko MAT poses (in the pose section of your library). There should be a "bodysuit off" MAT.

What clothing pack did you get? Clothing should be in the Figures or Props libraries, not in Poses. You may have bought a texture pack, not a clothing pack.

Ok, update. I was able to do the nude look as you suggested. I am also able to add the "ruffle dress" and change it to the differnt colored dresses that I got in the other psck. Problem is, whether I conform or parent, the dress will not completely cover the top part of her leg, unless I wiggle her legs around endlessly. Also, I am able to add her hair but, and don't laugh, but when I click on the color I want her hair to be, all it does is lift her leg up. What is that???? LOL

Skirts are always a problem. Aiko comes in with her legs slightly bent. (Which is annoying to most of us, but necessary for animators.) First, turn IK off. (Under Figure -> Use Inverse Kinematics.) Then, zero her. Select Aiko's body, then Window -> Joint Editor -> Zero figure.

You are still likely to have trouble with her legs sticking out of the skirt when you pose her. (It's an inherent problem with Poser.) Most conforming dresses, including the Ruffle Dress, solve this by including "pose morphs" in the skirt. These let you shape the skirt so it fits. They are called things like "LegSideL," "LegSideR," etc., so you can generally figure out what they do. Sometimes these are in the Body of the dress, sometimes in the Skirt, sometimes in the Hip.

Not sure about the hair problem you are having. What hair are you using? Are you sure you're applying a hair MAT file, and not a pose file?

Ok, I am going to print your last comments and suggestions out and try to do what you said. will post a bit later on what happened. :) Thanks so much!

Emanaia ( ) posted Fri, 29 April 2005 at 8:36 AM

Ok, I did what you said and everything went smoothly. Thank you!! Now about that hair. The folder name is "Mat Aiko 3 Hair" And supposedly it is about 20 different colors you can use for the hairstyles that you already have. The only place in the poser menu that these will show up is in the "poses" section. They will not show up under hair, props or anywhere else, yet when I click on a color, nothing happens. Even if I render it the color does not change. At least she is not kicking up her leg anymore LOL. The file extensions for these inside the folder are .PZ2 and .rsr. I am still so new to all of this and I really appreciate all your help!! I have to go to a meeting now but I will check back later for a dose of your infinite wisdom! :)

Hair MAT files are meant to change the color of the hair. They only work with the hair they were designed for. So make sure you have the hair that goes with the textures, and that it is selected. Then try applying the MAT files to change the color.

Emanaia ( ) posted Fri, 29 April 2005 at 9:41 AM

Ok, tell me what I am doing wrong. The hair color came with the hair so it stands to reason it should work. This is exactly what I did: I clicked on the hair on the top of her head with the mouse to select it. I went over to my color selection and double clicked on it to activate it. No difference showed so I rendered it. Still no change. What am I doing wrong? Do I possibly have to be in the hair room to do this? Thank you for your patience. :)

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 29 April 2005 at 10:15 AM

You don't have to be in the Hair Room.

Make sure the hair is parented to Aiko's head. Select the hair, then Object -> Change Parent. The Hierarchy editor will open up. Pick Aiko's head.

Then try the MAT.

MAT files don't work on props (including hair props) unless they are parented to a figure. Usually hair is automatically parented when it comes in, but sometimes they forget.

If that doesn't work, try saving your work, exiting Poser, and getting back in. Poser has strange memory errors sometimes. It has a tendency to hold on to old textures, even when you've changed them. The solution is to shut down Poser and re-start.

Emanaia ( ) posted Fri, 29 April 2005 at 10:35 AM

Ok, update. Yay she now has blue hair. Aparently there is a seperate file of colors that went with it tat I did not know was there and it works. Go figure. Anyway, the only problem I have now is, if I try to put her in one of her poses, designed for her, her dress either falls down or ends up on her arm. I chose another pose for someone else and it worked fine.... Thanks for all your help! I couldn't have done this without you! :):)

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 29 April 2005 at 12:01 PM

Have you conformed the dress to her?

Emanaia ( ) posted Fri, 29 April 2005 at 12:08 PM

Yes :) This program is finiky.....sometimes it seems to not want to do the same thing twice. I will try again in a bit. :)

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 29 April 2005 at 12:17 PM

Make sure you apply the pose to Aiko, not to her dress. Poser is funny sometimes. You may think you've selected one thing, but Poser is still stuck on something else.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Sat, 30 April 2005 at 3:20 AM

It does sound as if you've tried to do everything at once, which can make things complicated for a beginner. One or two useful tricks: When you load a figure, check the name it has, bottom left og the Document Window. Clothes should be conformed to the correct figure to work properly. The hair is (usually) a prop, and parented to the figure. Check you have the correct figure selected before you load hair. OK, Three useful tricks. Save your work often. Get the character the way you want, with hair, and save as a character. You'll be prompted about props; include them. Do the same with the clothes. Incidentally, that Red Suit -- you can change the colour in the Materials Room. And that area of the program has a whole new set of little problems...

Emanaia ( ) posted Sat, 30 April 2005 at 10:56 AM

Antonia, once you save a figure as a character, can you still go back and work on it or is it set? "check you have the correct figure selected before you load hair": I am assuming you mean click on the head first? I was able to change her out fo the red suit. Aparently there is a file for her in the pose section that enables her to be with or with out the suit, stickings and a couple of other things :) She is coming along nicely.. She is now in a pose, has red hair, a cool dress and thigh high stockings. Only thing missing is her shoes and I can not seem to find any. Oh well, she can go barefoot LOL Thanks for your help! :):)

Did you check the Costume Festival page? It's a Japanese page with free clothing for various figures, including Aiko. There are shoes with some of the outfits.

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Sat, 30 April 2005 at 10:58 AM

Saving a character to the library retains all of the morph etc. controls, so you can reload and modify. Just make sure that the body or some part of the figure is selected (not its clothes, which are usually separate figures!).

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

Going to look now. :)

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Sat, 30 April 2005 at 12:07 PM

Loading hair... You don't have to have the head selected to load hair, just the correct figure. Conforming clothes don't have to have a head, though if they need to cover some of the figure's neck they likely do. Which means that sometimes the hair will appear to work when it's been loaded onto the head of the clothing. All the libraries will let you save something from your current work. But saving to the Pose library won't create a new MAT file. And something you'll hit sooner or later: Aiko will take V3 textures, but a V3 MAT will leave most of the legs unchanged. This is because Aiko (and Hiro) have the legs divided into more Material groups. You can use the slightly awkward copy-and-paste methods in the Materials Room to fill in the gaps (mouse-only, no keyboard shortcuts).

LOL I am still so new at this it as though you are speaking German. LOL I have been able to make 2 compete pieces and working on the third now with Aiko but there is SO much I don't know about this program. Version 6 is my first version to use. Were the others this hard to figure out???
