Subject: Help needed locating the new version Dalek.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sat, 30 April 2005 at 5:28 PM · edited Tue, 04 February 2025 at 12:08 AM

For those of you who are interested in the new Doctor Who series, you'll have probably seen the new, souped up Dalek in tonight's episode. I'm looking for one I can use in Poser. So far I have located 2 versions of this but I have been unable to contact the creators. One doesn't give contact details on the website and the other's contact address is invalid (in any case, that particular model is in Max format, so no use to me). If anyone can locate a Poser version I will be eternally grateful. BTW, it must be the new version - I have the others. TIA.

Have you tried asking around at the Who 3D forums?

This thread, in particular, might interest you.

The entire season will be available on DVD in late November. For Region 2, at least.

Well worth seeing, IMO. So far the series has been very good.

If it helps; according to the press in the UK, the new design is based more on the Daleks from the '60s feature-films than those from the TV series. There might be some reference material available on this.

OT, but did anyone see the Daleks in that Red Dwarf special, "Red Dwarf A to Zed?" That was funny.

been 3 movies.. 2 with Daleks "Doctor Who and the Daleks" - Starring Peter Cushing "Dalek Invasion of Earth 20??" - Starring Peter Cushing and the 8th Doctor Movie starring Paul McGann

Khai wrote, "seems the BBC have plans for the Dalek.." In one of the short video vignettes, one of the series' designers talked about the various color schemes considered. He held up that sheet to illustrate his point. Eventually, they decided upon the 2nd from the upper left, the "bronze' tones. So those were simply color schemes that were rejected. Also, if you look closely, it's not the final physical design, anyway. The vertical panels surrounding the "chest" don't have the recessed paneling the on-screen prop has. I don't think these are meant to be the Daleks that will appear in episodes 12 and 13. But, I could be wrong. Sincerely, Bill

A purple Dalek would be cool. :)

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sat, 30 April 2005 at 10:33 PM

Racing stripes and flame decals would be cool.

Therte's a thread currently within the fan art section of "OutPost Gallifrey" titled "Pimp my Dalek" encouraging artists to come up with their own distinctive color and pattern schemes. Note: you have to register as a member of the forums, but it's free. Note 2: You may have to wait until Monday to register. There's extremely high post volume right after a new episode airs. What gives with the 'floating' Dalek last night..? Does that mean we can't push them down stairs no more :-(

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sun, 01 May 2005 at 6:59 AM

Bill wil be able to confirm this but I am sure they could float in a previous series.

Khai ( ) posted Sun, 01 May 2005 at 7:07 AM

yup one chased the 7th Doctor up some stairs ;) Bill, I was thinking.. if we see the Time Wars at any point, then we could see those other Dalek colours... imagine that Camo Dalek in a jungle fighting the way the one in Dalek did... shudder

RHaseltine ( ) posted Sun, 01 May 2005 at 9:15 AM

I seem to remember a Dalek floating up an access shaft in a Pertwee episode - the one on the jungle planet. I think there were some unusually militant Thals running around, and a cavern with a Dalek army in it.

Khai ( ) posted Sun, 01 May 2005 at 9:20 AM

yup it was on a AntiGrav disk.. they dumped a large rock down the shaft.. wasn't until Rememberance of the Daleks that you got a Dalek that could hover on it's own tho...

RHaseltine ( ) posted Sun, 01 May 2005 at 9:28 AM

Ah - that explains it. (Handy how there's always a big rock around just when you need it, isn't it?)

Andi3d ( ) posted Sun, 01 May 2005 at 10:32 AM

goddamn it....go on....rub it in.... I moved to Sweden just before xmas, so consequently havent seen any of the new Dr Who episodes. :-)

Therte's a thread currently within the fan art section of "OutPost Gallifrey" titled "Pimp my Dalek" .... Oh, gods ... that's it. I'll have to register now. I can't resist seeing what they'll dream up. Have they equipped one with fuzzy pink dice yet, or is it more of a serious project?

Redfern ( ) posted Sun, 01 May 2005 at 8:56 PM

The last time I saw the thread, there was only the one image from the thread starter. It was a photo manipulation of a life sized Dalek prop given the British flag pattern. Somehow, I don't think that counts as serious. ;-) Sincerely, Bill

Yes, try this link. It's the "classic" travel machine with the "solar cell" slats surrounding the torso. The dome swivels, the eyestalk "bobs" and both the plunger arm and gun stivk have "ball in socket" motion. The geometry is based upon a model sculpted by James Murphy. Xanost (alternatively spelled Xonxost) converted it into a .CR2 figure. Sincerely, Bill
