Subject: P6 - anyone else notice this?

cherokee69 ( ) posted Sun, 01 May 2005 at 1:26 PM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 1:19 PM

Not sure what's going on or how to correct it but, what bothers me with P6 is if I load something in the preview window, then go to the Render window, the last thing I had opened is there...I had loaded my barn the last time I had P6 opened. So now when I loaded David in the preview window, clicked on the Render window, there is that barn. Anyone know what is going on here or if it's correctable?

It saves the last render until you do a new one. The way to get rid of that is to render the new scene.

Then that scene will be sitting in the Render window? That's a waste of memory isn't it?

Actually it saves the last 10 or so renders. There's a menu below where you can pick which ones to display. Its purpose, in theory, is to allow you to compare renders, like trying different lighting, etc

Well, I wish it didn't do that.

Go to EDIT/General Preferences, and change the "Max Cached Renders" to whatever number you want. The default is 10.

It's funny how some people view a feature differently than others. For instance, I love this feature. It's something I've been used to having in 3dsmax. 3ds only saves the previous render, but I like having even more available for reference.

Tools :  3dsmax 2015, Daz Studio 4.6, PoserPro 2012, Blender v2.74

System: Pentium QuadCore i7, under Win 8, GeForce GTX 780 / 2GB GPU.

cherokee69 ( ) posted Sun, 01 May 2005 at 2:24 PM

Too bad you can't set that to 0.

maxxxmodelz ( ) posted Sun, 01 May 2005 at 2:38 PM

Well, you can set it to 1, which is almost 0. ;-P

Actually, I just edited it in the user ini, and it was there, UNLESS you open the preferences dialog, and then it resets it. What I'd do, if ou really want rid of it, is edit the user ini, set it to 0, and then LOCK that file so it cannot be rewritten. That should work for you.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

I love that thing. Im glade that you have it.

Well yah, it kind does. Because some one was complaining that they didn;t like the fact that you can save more then one render at a time.

Is there a way to export cached renders? A while back I was giving someone advice on lighting a scene and I did two renders to show a scene comparatively with two different light sets, but I forgot to export the first render. When I tried to export it from the render wipe all I could export was the newest render.

martian_manhunter: if you choose the render you want as Main Render (the black arrow in the lower left corner), I think you'll be able to export the older render.

Actually, you can. I've done it. Its very convenent.

shedofjoy ( ) posted Sun, 01 May 2005 at 5:53 PM

With all the increases in poser versions will there be a newer looking NaySayGuy???? as i noticed dr Geep has now moved into the house of P6.

Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.

geep ( ) posted Sun, 01 May 2005 at 6:22 PM

NaySayGuy never changes.
(except that his IQ might go down)
