Subject: I may have posted this before, but....

Is Poser 6 that good in terms of usage. I'm planning on buying it for my upgrade to 4. Is it much tolerable than what the much early unease of version 5? I want to know since I'm reading some good and some rather mixed points. Thank you, jlovesart2 aka JBWStar

I don't mean this to sound rude, so don't misinterpret: If you've been reading the mixed reviews, than why are you asking? You'll only get more mixed reviews. Besides, it would differ depending on the OS platform and machine you're running it on. I think the best advice anyone would give is.... Wait until CL offers up the service release. Read those new mixed reviews and base your purchase on those updated comments. If you are a PC user, the memory issue may be of paramount concern for numerous reasons mentioned elsewhere. If you're a Mac user, you may have to contend with.....um,.....there's the.....ahhhhhh. Hmmm. Are there any serious Mac issues pertaining to Poser 6? My own personal Mac experience is that Poser 6 is smooth as glass, but i'm a very casual user (i.e. I do 3D in tshirt and jeans) and haven't pushed it to its limits to date.

Mac issue: Running Python Scripts.

My apologies... I didn't mean to offend anyone. Yes, I do have a PC and memory is a big issue.

I would wait until a service pack is released to fix the memory bug. If you have a previous version of poser, stick with it for now. There is a lot of controversy over the memory problem. It seems to strike randomly. Computers with over 2GB of RAM are affected as are computers (like mine) with only 512MB.

I haven't encountered the memory bug in P6. Maybe I just don't do anything that complicated. But I have found a bug in the refraction node which Curious Lab has confirmed and said will also be fixed in the service release. I guess not that many people do refractions and that is why it hasn't been mentioned more.

If you want to do some serious work with P6 then wait for P6 SR1. If you're afraid of losing your work and don't want to save to a new file or install some real time backup software, wait for SR1. On the other hand there's a lot to explore in P6 for P4 owners, so why not start exploring now? ;-)

CLsteve posted in another thread that the SR1 should be available in the next week or so.

Well that's good. I just made my purchase today, and I can't wait. Whatever the reason, I'll try something. And again, if I had offended anyone w/ such a response, I fully apologize. I will be looking forward to the SR1 too when it comes. Thanks Kristta for the info. jlovesart aka JBWStar
