1st Submission of a Pelican I caught swimming in this canal. Taken with a very OLD Olympus OM-10 and neg scanned. Used up 2 rolls of film to get the one picture I liked. Many filters and channel shifts in parts of this scene to bring out the depth and reflections in the water.

Yesterday Morning the sun was in a perfect place to beam its light through a hole in the clouds. Still Waters and layering of filters and channel shifts with natures blend of reflections and this is what we have.

Wow pelican is a good shot. Of course sun coming through clouds is always uplifting.

I like your photo very much! First is much closer to this subject, but I like the second image for the colours, mood and divine rays of the sun!

I like the red tone of the 2nd, quite surreal!!
the pelican is nice with the blue reflection...
not so sure of the light frame you have there within the initial frame

Something to keep in mind when you shoot is the "Rule of Thirds" to add more interest & focus in your compositions

"The general idea is to find a pleasing placement for the objects in your photograph, rather than simply placing the main object in the center of the photo, or having your photo appear to be a random collection of elements.

To use the rule of thirds, visualize a 3 x 3 grid overlaying the scene you see in your viewfinder or LCD. When composing your shot, try to locate the main objects in your photo at the intersection of these grid lines. In other words, place your main objects 1/3 up from the bottom and 1/3 over from the left, or 1/3 down from the top and 1/3 over from the right, etc."

Thanks for the tips, I will read up some more about composition. Generaly I am guided by my intuition and not rules, so you will probably find I am a little abstract to the norm and certaintly outside the text book rules. I gauge shots by the reactions produced in people of today, they want something different, they like light and colour so these are the elements I like to bring together in a slightly surreal tone. If the scene has a feel that I am looking for then click. I do plan the shots though most of my work goes in the postal stuff. All the same there is always room for much improvement. Thanks again!
