Subject: Anybody can wear a dress

I am really loving the improvements made in the cloth room in Poser 6. I just renders so much faster and is so much more stable that I can actually get things done. Here is and extreme example. I took a full figured, full size Victoria 3.0 and put a P5 girls beach dress on her. A dress intended for the Poser 5 child, and put it on an adult woman.

And here is what the character and the dress look like prior to running them through the cloth room. If this character can wear this dress, it would seem this character could wear just about any piece of dynamic clothing. No more having to settle for character specific clothing.

I totally agree that the cloth room makes it VERY easy to fit clothing between figures. I now have a complete faith in the cloth rooms's ability to fit clothing between figures, which is a faith that I back up when first saving a 'roughly fit' object that I will import later to be fit. (you'd probably be surprised at just how very approximate some of these cloth objects are).

I've read a few bits of advice suggesting that it's best to start the fitting simulation with an object that has been scaled and positioned to eliminate poke-through. Personally I take the opposite route when fitting cloth between figures. I find that the cloth room does a better job of 'moulding' a shape in the cloth, when the simulation starts with (just a bit of) poke-through. Usually only takes a couple of frames or so before the cloth expands to fit nicely. I personally get much better results this way - rather than trying to get the cloth room to shrink clothing to fit. Only very rarely now do I find that I need to scale the character to 'grow into' the cloth during a simulation.

Yes, the cloth room is wonderfull, poser has now a profesional cloth maker, like very expensive packages like max with clothreyes plugin or the digimation one, that they costonly the plugins much more than 4 posers.

I agree that the Cloth Room is fantastic! I seem to spend a lot of time in there :) I am going to give this dress a try - you make it look so easy!! Thanks for the tip! :)

Fazzel, you should really write a tutorial on how you did that. I've never used the cloth room and haven't a clue where to begin! The image looks fantastic though! Kristta

I didn't really do anything all that special. There are lots
of cloth room tutorials out there, it's just that they work
a lot better in Poser 6 because Poser 6 is a lot more stable
and faster than the cloth room in Poser 5. Basically just
find a piece of clothing you want to try, put it on the
chartacter, set up the simulation like it tells you to in
the Poser 6 manual starting on page 253, run the simulation
and if you don't like how it looks or are still getting poke
throughs, go back and twiddle with the x, y, and z scales
of the dress and then run the simulation again.
You could do this in Poser 5 too, but it takes a long time
and after about 7 or 8 trys Poser 5 would crash and you would
have to start all over again.

Krissta, You tried to help me out the other day, so here is a return on the favor. This was the first tut I found on using the Cloth Room, and it was pretty good, so you can check it out if you have the time.
