Subject: Looking for Saloon Girls and other period Ladies....

Butch ( ) posted Sat, 07 May 2005 at 8:17 AM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 4:41 PM

I have a project to do and I need clothes for Victoria that will put her in the period of roughly 1880 to 1900. Somewhere in that time frame. I have looked around and haven't really found what I was looking for. I do remember a saloon girl costume but it seems to have vanished into thin air.... Any help would great. thanks Butch

PoserWorld has a cute saloon girl outfit for V2. You could use it on V1 and the V3-to-V2 figure that comes with V3 as well.

RDNA has Western clothing that would fit in that era, if you wanted a pioneer woman or a barmaid.

I just checked with PoserWorld and came up empty. The search engine had 0 items for Saloon Girl....

randym77 ( ) posted Sat, 07 May 2005 at 8:49 AM

Search on saloon, not saloon girl. I think he called "Saloon Gal" or something like that, so it might not come up if you search on Saloon Girl.

You could also look at AprilYSH's Ashley character at DAZ. )I thought the PW saloon girl was V3? The skirt is a prop anyway, and there's no shortage of corsets to go with it.)

No, I'm pretty sure the PoserWorld Saloon Gal outfit is for V1/2.

Poserworld-missiony Daughter, Cav Capt, Saloon Dancer, and more Daz has some peroid clothing, western and victorian, male and female. Quesyoe also has some peroid weapons, (guns -Holsters, rifles, etc) in the freebees DNA has some peroid clothing as well as western town, and Victorian streets, and misc props in DNA's freebees

The ones at PoserWorld are the best I've seen. They are for V2 but I use them for many other figures with a little scaling and magnet work.

there was a site called Poser Style (I think), that had period dresses from the 19th Century. Mainly the Regency Period (early 19th Century), but I can't find the link..:|

I have looked a couple of times at PoserWorld and can not find any thing like the saloon gal or dress. Can someone point me in the right direction. I think it pretty close if not the exact thing that I am looking for.

I wrote a story that is somewhere between a novel and a novella about a serious of cartoons that I bought. I used the cartoons to illustrate the story for a friend of mine. Now she want me to see about getting the story published but I can't use the cartoons because they are copywrited. Also I had to tailor the story around the cartoons, and in rewriting it I would like to tailor Poser renders around the story.
Here's the cartoon that started the whole thing....

Are you a subscriber of PoserWorld? Most of their stuff is only available to subscribers. (Not in the store or in free stuff.) It's well worth subscribing. Even if you buy the shortest subscription, you're allowed to download everything they have. And they have a lot. Years worth of stuff, for everyone from Posette to V3, SP, Aiko 3 and the Girl.

If you subscribe, you'll find the salooon girl stuff, plus several texture sets, a whole saloon interior with piano, etc. Plus other stuff that might be useful, like a cowboy outfit for Mike.

that's the problem then. No I am not a subcriber, but looks like I am going to have to become one. Thanks for the info. Butch

Hey, I remember that comic! I never could find an intact copy of any of the issues and had seriously wished that someone had converted it to digital by scanning but no such luck...:{ I'll be watching to see how your project turns out...I love this artists work and am most interested to see you it turns out in 3D.

Butch, if you subscribe at PoserWorld, you will not regret it. And that Saloon Gal outfit is not the only period clothing they have either. France

There is a ton of vintage clothes at Poser World. I also bought some vintage addons for the MFD here. Also, those files at Poser World are for V2, but if you run them through Tailor, you can get them to fit V3.

Anybody ever think to hit up SergeMarck? (don't have the URL offhand, but google should cough it up quick enough...) He makes tons of 18th and 19th century dresses and such - and for free. /P

Acadia ( ) posted Sun, 08 May 2005 at 12:52 AM

Yeah, I could use the V1/2 figure, but then I couldn't use my character addons, and I'm not very good at adjusting faces, and Vicky looks stoned and cross eyed if you don't change the expression and facial features.

"Anybody ever think to hit up SergeMarck?" Poserfashion. Great stuff.

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 08 May 2005 at 5:59 AM

You don't really need to run it through the Tailor to get it to fit. The way you're doing it (no mannikin or anything), you could probably get similar results just by scaling the clothing or the figure slightly. V2 and V3 are similar enough that the clothing fits pretty well "out of the box." There will be some poke-through, but you can fix it with scaling and turning parts invisible.

Some people can fit clothing you'd never think would fit this way. It doesn't work well for animation, but for stills, it usually works pretty well.

PoserFashion.net has great stuff, but no saloon girls that I can recall.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Sun, 08 May 2005 at 9:05 AM

Vicky 3 to Vicky 2 takes v3 head morphs (but not body morphs). The real problem with the figure is that it uses V1/2 maps - which rather defeats the object of having a figure that lets you use V1/2 clothes with your V3 character.

pigfish9 ( ) posted Mon, 09 May 2005 at 4:03 PM

Of course, the Universal Texture Converter at DAZ3D by 3DUniverse (I bought my copy HERE when it first came out) will let you convert the new realistic V3 textures down to V1/V2. I do this a lot since V2 is easier on the animation renders than V3.
