Last first: go to Presets/Materials directory of 5.5 and just create a new directory there. Put the new materials there. Nothing can be done about wasted space in libraries in 5*, but you can very simply export more materials. Select the first material you want to export, press shift and click on the last. All the materials inbetween will also be selected. Export the group. If the materials are not sequentially ordered, just Control-click on the wanted ones and export them. * The deleted presets are not there, Bryce 5 just keeps holding the space where they were. So it means your libraries cannot get smaller, however many materials you delete.

" Last first: go to Presets/Materials directory of 5.5 and just create a new directory there." Yes, but HOW? I can't find a button in there that says anything about "create new library" or anything similar. I've tried clicking on the down arrow next to the texture editor, the ones on the Materials... everywhere, but I can't see where to start. Help?

hmm..I've done mine in the OS, I don't think I know of a way to do it in Bryce. In the Materials Folder, copy/rename the user.mat file with a name that works for you (such as metals.mat), for each category you want. Then, when you pull up Bryce, and look in the User section of materials, you should see the categories. If you go through the old materials, you should be able to add them to each category as you see fit. I've done it one at a time, but then I don't do it that often any more. Hope that helps.

I have a tutorial that covers how to organize the preset folders on my site. I also have empty preset files just in case you need them. PeggyLVS - Where Learning is Fun!

Well I've just spent all day saving my objects - probably not using the correct way as I got fed up not being able to do any creating so I ...well I opened B5 and clicked on CREATE. and thus "created" all the objects in a folder into a scene - saved that scene as a B5 file - opened B5.5 opened the saved B5 file and re "added" all the objects... took a long time. I did manage to use the WinExplore method on the materials, as I wanted pretty much all the contents of those - found out how to make loads of new categories. But I'm still gonna go see what Peggy did. Thanks Peggy, for the link. Er... Peggy? You don't have a downloadable version do you? A non PDF file? I just can't work well with those things - they seem to drive me crackers.

I didn't seem to need empty .mat files - I created new folders where I wanted them, and when I opened Bryce5.5 there they were, and as soon as I saved something to a new folder a .mat file appeared when I looked again in WinExplorer. Yup, I just now checked and I made a "MarineLife" folder in Objects and since I added some shells and fish in there I now have a 'MarineLife.ob' file in there but "Fur&Leather" which I also made at the same time in anticipation - is still empty... I'd like to know about backing up though....

Hi FranOnTheEdge, I'll have to look around and see where I have the Word version of my tutorial. Just got a new computer and I have files, CDs, backups, everywhere but on my computer! Peggy

And Peggy? I've now found a need for empty .mat files - I suppose you don't also have empty .obp files... and maybe the same for textures???

The download on my site for the empty preset files will give you both an empth .obp file and a .mat one. Sorry I did not have a chance to look for the Word file yet. My daughter shared her stomach flu with me...

Awwww, sweet of her. Hope you get better soon, better get out the chicken soup. What about empty texture .brt files? I noticed that there are none of those in the presets.zip file. Fran

I found an empty .brt file in C:Program FilesDAZBryce 5.5PresetsTexturesUser. I'll add it to my downloads as soon as I can.

Yippeeee! Thanks Peggy, It'll be separate though, won't it? I don't need the others again, I've already downloaded those. Hey, mind you take care of yourself... I like a nice scambled egg on toast if I'm ill, or even a medium boiled egg and soldiers to dip into the yoke - yummmm!

I'll keep the download for the .brt file separate. My tutorial does not cover them, although they should work the same as the others. Soldiers to dip into the yoke??? What's that?

It's a slice of toast, cut into long strips thin enough to go into the egg. Soldiers! Dunno why though... Mum says maybe 'cause they stand up straight? And thanks for keeping the .brt file separate.

Hi, I'm finding that everytime I want to try something in B5.5 I can't because I don't have that effect in the libraries. Here I'm talking of the materials, (but the same question applies to the objects too) I have old (and good) stuff in B4 as I've only recently got B5 and now B5.5, so there's good stuff in B5 too, but if I copy a library (dunno how to do that either!!!) I will have duplicates all over the place. So, I wanna copy stuff in B4 to both B5 and B5.5 and I need some of the stuff, (maybe whole libraries) from B5 to go into B5.5 (anguished expression) Only I've heard of the preset still being there even when you've deleted it from the preset library - eating up room. So how can I do this neatly? Oh, and preferably without having to do it one single material at a time!!!! Plus... how do I CREATE a totally new library in B5.5? Help!!! Fran
