Subject: WTF is it with Curious Labs..?

ziggie ( ) posted Wed, 11 May 2005 at 8:00 AM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 2:20 AM

Why do they have to make everything SOOOO difficult...? step 1. Gave in and bought P6 which arrived today. step 2. Registered with CL and accepted. step 3. Attempted to d/l content update from CL site and for some totally inexplicable reason redirected to Content Paradise. step 4. Registered with Content Paradise and accepted. step 5. Select content update and enter serial number. Item added to cart. step 6. Goto check out and told cart EMPTY. I have tried over and over with same results. I can see why so many people are P O'd with with P6 and CL. I would like to be able to moan about P6 with everyone else (felt kinda left out) but haven't even fired it up yet 'cos I want the updates first.

It all works because I've done it. Must be some small thing that was changed causing the problem.

Let them know what is happening with the cart so they can get it fixed.

Posting here, they may not see it.

We're all busy downloading the scarab, so I know that CP is working. First, are you accepting the cookie? Second, some of their text boxes could be bigger and more obvious. Try this... on the CP home page, in the upper right corner is a spot that says "featured freebie." Click on it to get to the Scarab page. Add it to your cart. For my cart, it doesn't matter if I've already logged in or not, items will stay in the cart until I check out, even if it is a few days later. So, having 1 free item in the cart, and being logged in, hit the checkout button. You should get to a screen which asks if you accept the terms and conditions (standard boilerplate similar to all these stores). If you were to pay for something, that screen would be next, but I think at this point you get an invoice-type screen and buried in it, off to the right, is a download link. Click and download. We can start eliminating snagpoints if you can get the freebie. Carolly

Use Mozilla with content paradise.

ziggie ( ) posted Wed, 11 May 2005 at 9:12 AM

mmmm... coookies :-) yes I am accepting cookies. Just tried again and what happens is: It logs me in ok, but... as soon as I go to any other page like freebies whatever.. my login details disappear and the details for logging in come back up again. Then if I add something and re-log in or not... it empties my basket. I musta got the basket wif the wonkie wheels and a hole in the bottom :-(

Thats why I use Mozilla, It stops that from happening. You only have to log in once per day.

this was happening to me to. I seem to have got it working now. With me it was a google toolbar popup blocker that was causing the problem. I turened it off now it seems to work.

Do you have any anti-spyware or security program running? Sometimes these programs can prevent your browser from using cookies.

ziggie ( ) posted Wed, 11 May 2005 at 9:42 AM

mmm.... problem solved, but... I don't like the solution. I fired up P6 for first time and went to Content Paradise from there. Working now, but... I DON'T like things that auto load into my programes (P6) as it is doing now. Surely... Content Paradise can be accessed without having to go through P6. Oh well... thanxz for the help guys an gals :-)

It's not just you. A lot of people have this problem. The answer seems to be to keep trying, and try different browsers.

I occasionally have this problem with Firefox, but trying a couple more times usually works.

It is a right pain. I despise the whole design of CP, more than words can say.

Now I have the content updates I have firewalled Content Paradise so it wont work from within P6. Other than a few freebies it dosn't offer anything that I can't get from all the member stores in the usual manner that I have in the past. At least I can control what is being downloaded and put it where I want it. On the up-side :-) I have just been playing wif P6 and.. sob.. sob... I can't find anything to complain about yet :-( And... I cannot believe the start up time....! From double clicking the P6 icon to being in my preferred state and in my P4 runtime which is jam packed... takes... gulp 21 seconds. My system must be b****red..!

ziggie ( ) posted Wed, 11 May 2005 at 10:34 AM

Rebekah: agreed... except that it wont keep me logged in :-( Not to worry, I can live without it :-) yet... sure as eggs are eggs... we will end up having to get P6 SR1... SR2... SR3... SR ad nauseum through Content Parasite :-(

I just used my regular browser to log in because the CP Tab never shows the "Login" option for me anymore. If I log in via my browser though I'm suddenly logged in via the CP tab as well.

sixus1 ( ) posted Wed, 11 May 2005 at 10:57 AM

I haven't had any trouble staying logged in. Sorry about your trouble. :( --Rebekah--

I'll see if we can't get krazik to look into the situation. At least you've got P6 and the updates installed so you can start poking around the new features. :) Carolly
