Subject: I need some honest critiques on an image

BillyGoat ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 8:36 AM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 4:54 AM

My newest Vue image is lousy. The more I look at it the worse it gets. Anyone willing to help me make it better? I could just delete it, but I won't learn anythig that way. I could use your help. BillyGoat - image is 'Madison House' Thank you!

Can you put a link to it in this forum discussion ? or maybe post a copy here so we could comment on it without 'polluting' your comments ? :)

You are all welcome to send me an IM so as not to add to the number of views. I have gotten some great ideas and I am grateful!

Well, for starters it breaks just about every compositional rule in the book!! Go here: http://www.wetcanvas.com/Articles2/135/120/ for a good introduction to the subject. Hope this helps ... ... ...

I think the water looks great but the picture lacks depth. The house's lighting is nice. The material for the terrain that the house is on shoud be more complex. Good luck.

Thank all of you for your help :-) I've been working and reworking the scene all day. To be honest its not that much better :-( I think the exterior needs a completely different texture... I tried 40 different atmospheres, and changed the point of view. Pulled back and up. Still not satisfied. Added 25 trees. Added rocks at the base of the terrain. I'm on a final render right now - maybe I will post a small render of it here later. For your feedback.

Off the bat I would suggest lowing your ambient light in the atmosphere editor.

That's not a bad start, Billygoat. However, you might want to change the camera angle. Perhaps you could try moving it to the right, lowering it a little and rotating it so that you are looking up at the house? Another thing you could try in tandem with the previous suggestion is placing the sun so that it is peeking out over a corner of the roof. Btw, I like the clouds behind the house and the water!
