Subject: new DAZ skeletons for $1.50

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 6:25 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 6:31 AM

DAZ has new skeletons out. They conform to V3 and M3, and have ERC spines.

They're also have a "Bryce Madness" promotion. If you bought Bryce 5.5, they'll send you a coupon that lets you buy the skeletons for $3. $1.50 if you own the previous skeleton (which most PC members should).

dialyn ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 6:49 PM

I must be blind. I don't see any skeletons for $1.50. I'm looking at $14.68 with discounts for the upgrade (I don't have Bryce).

nickedshield ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 6:58 PM

Hum, I have a skeleton that was part of the PC renewel from a couple of years ago. That any good?

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 7:06 PM

Click on the "Bryce Madness" button, in the upper left of the screen. Yes, the PC renewal skeleton is the one you need for the upgrade.

AlteredKitty ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 7:59 PM

Has anyone got and installed this yet? Does the upgrade install ask for the original skeleton object? I have it from the PC renewel last time but it's not installed. I don't want it as well as the new version and if I need to install the old one too, may splash out $2.98 and get the full new version. Sorry for repetition, it's VERY late here and I'm tired ;)

Well, I see they say it is $1.50 on the page but it is a lot more than that in my shopping basket. Oh well, I didn't need another skeleton.

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 8:05 PM

You only get the $1.50 price if you bought Bryce 5.5.

dialyn ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 8:10 PM

Oh...I thought there was a deal for the Platinum Club, and then a better deal for the Bryce people. Okay. No skeleton for me. Thank you for the clarification! I appreciate it. :)

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 8:13 PM

I don't think I'll be getting it, either. At least, not yet. $15 isn't bad for two skeletons, but I don't need them right now. I figure they'll go on sale again sometime before Halloween. :-)

dialyn ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 8:17 PM

Everything goes on sale again, doesn't it? :)

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 8:21 PM

Yup. :-D

Dave-So ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 8:23 PM

but $1.50-3.00 is way to hard to pass on.

Yeah, and all we have to do is buy Bryce 5.5 for $100 to get that price! ;-)

Dave-So ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 8:40 PM

its a real steal :) I wonder if I can actually figure out what I paid for Bryce 5.5/// I know the price was 19.xx....but... considering the combo of PC payments, PC discounts for the bundle thing whatever that was to get the 30% off Bryce 5.5, and paying for it, PC 30% discount, vouchers, and whatever else fanagliing that goes on.... jeece....I may have pair $200 for it...I'm really not suree :) but the skele is pretty cheap...and I still have that 50% off coupon for buying B5.5 ... good until the 17th ....

bushi ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 9:25 PM

Yes! Very Sweet! If you are getting the Bryce 5.5 update and have 5.0 and the PC you can make a killing on this deal. I just got the 5.5 update ($49.96), the Milldragon 2.0 ($27.98) and the Skeleton with the Textures ($12.72) all for $90.66. It's Good!

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 9:33 PM

Yeah, but it's only a bargain if you need the stuff. I don't need Bryce. (Just bought Vue Infinitie.) I don't really need the skeletons, actually. They're nice, but the old DAZ skeleton with Royloo's morphing skull in place of the default skull works well enough.

bushi ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 10:27 PM

And need them I did! I had to selve a Halloween project last year because I couldn't afford the 70-or-so bucks for the articulated Daz skeleton and the standard one wasn't detailed enough. That project gets dusted off and I might have it ready for this Halloween. =) The Eastern Dragon will work perfect for a pic I'm doing right now so getting everything for the low price was indeed a bargain.

I think the "BRYCE" Sale for "poser" items stinks for Platinum Club members! I "pay" to get the best prices for all poser items and do not need BRYCE either, I would not feel this way if they offered a 90% off on their BRYCE textures or terrains. I think the 90% should include Platinum Club members also. Does anyone else feel that way?

Dave-So ( ) posted Fri, 13 May 2005 at 6:09 AM

thinking about it, its a great deal for buyers of Bryce 5.5, although the figure is not a Bryce figure..its a D|S or Poser figure..... But I think DAZ is integrating, or hopes to integrate, and sell Bryce as a complement to DS, more so than the other way around, and is trying to get more and more folks to buy Bryce, which will then expose more folks to DS as well... smart marketing. They already have most of the PC folks hooked....they're trying to reel in the Bryce people that don't have Poser.

I was just on the site and Platinum Club members pay 9.78 for textures and 14.68 for skeleton upgrades. Not too bad, but, I must say I dont like this new direction, I also have vue infinite, and frankly for me thats enough, it`s easy to get carried away with these softwares, I have BRYCE 5 and have recently decided to stick with 1 scenery generator, upgrading all these things gets costly :).

dialyn ( ) posted Fri, 13 May 2005 at 6:12 AM

I'm staying unhooked. It is getting too expensive to take advantage of all these deals. I'm not rushing out to buy Bryce in order to acquire a skeleton. It's their site and they can do what they want, but the deals are getting less attractive to me as they go down the exclusivity road.

Dave-So ( ) posted Fri, 13 May 2005 at 6:18 AM · edited Fri, 13 May 2005 at 6:19 AM

I wish I could afford Vue Infinite. It looks like tha perfect landscape generator..the vegetation appears to be really good. And it still imports Poser content.

I'm about ready to drop DAZ, or the PC club anyway. There are savings, but the savings end up with a lot of cash spent :) edited to say...if I would stay out of DAZ, I could afford Vue Infinite in a short period of time

kim258 - there were a fair few brycers who felt the same way you do back when bryce 5.5 pricing was originally announced - people in the PC club (predominantly a poser user group) were getting a discount on bryce5.5 ..... which is kind of the opposite to whats going on now - bryce user/owners getting a discount on poser content. I tend to agree with Dave-so - its an interesting marketing idea at trying to get bryce users perhaps to buy more poser/DS stuff (assuming that they aren't already buying poser content). I just wish I could see some sales numbers and statistics to actually see how successful these sorts of marketing ideas are (curiosity value).

My point is not to kill capitalism, or ask why the world isnt fair :) but, I "pay" to get the best prices from this company, thats all. I am actually a big fan of DAZ this is the first thing I am not cool on. I did order the skeletons, it is a neat product as most of their stuff is :)

Wow, Bryce 5.5 must really be selling badly in order for DAZ to promote it in such a way. I've just returned Bryce 5.5 and even this sale isn't going to tempt me to re-buy it. I haven't seen a more dissapointing product then Bryce 5.5 in years. To me it's been a waste of money and looks like DAZ is just trying to trick people into buying some piece of junk in order to get something else. I also stopped being a pc member at DAZ a while ago. With all of these promotions DAZ is running lately (march madness, opening pc club for a limited time to every one and so on), it's a waste of money to be a pc member. They've double crossed pc members a lot of times by now, it's just not worth being a pc member anymore.

aeilkema, wow Im glad I didnt buy it. Bryce is now so far behind its competition, I was thinking that DAZ was hard at work to have it catch up and thinking its going to, hmm your post is very interesting guess they still have a ways to go.

aeilkema ( ) posted Sat, 14 May 2005 at 3:07 PM

DAZ working hard to catch up? I don't think so. Personally I do think they'll never catch up. It took them almost a year to get Bryce 5.5 out, after pushing the release date further and further over a period of 7 months or so. In this year they've hardly accomplished anything at all. They improved the render speed, but that's only for a select number of pc's, a lot of people do not experience the rendering speed increase at all, but rather a decrease. Secondly they've integrated D/S into Bryce, they promised not to do so, but did it anyway. Third new feature they've added is OpenGL additions. The rest are some minor improvements and bug fixes, but you can count those easily on two hands...... All of this has taken them almost a year and speaking programming wise these are just minor improvements. The real catching on has still to start. so if minor improvements already take a year how long will the real improvements take? I wouldn't place my bet on DAZ at all, they don't seem to be holding the best cards at all. Of course some will like D/S better then Poser and others will like Vue over Bryce, that's a personal taste. But if we really compare all them as applications (without personal preference and taste), Poser 5/6 and Vue 5 (not even mentioning Vue 5 Infinite) are much better then Bryce 5/5.5 and DAZ Studio are. Bryce and D/S are applications from the past, Poser and Vue are up to date applications.

I remember downloading D/S and when I launched it and saw the user interface I could`t believe how cumbersome it was and everything was hidden or in the way, and it is not even pleasing to the eye. Maybe they should stick to content, they do that pretty well.

Dave-So ( ) posted Sun, 15 May 2005 at 9:41 AM

D|S is a weird bird to use. I did go gangbusters when DAZ originally released it for alpha then beta...gave the first 3 or 4 versions a go, but just didn't like it. Now that its so tightly integrated with Bryce, I figured I would give it a real try last night, and it is indeed cumbersome, especially for scene setup. The interface needs to be brightened up...maybe its possible to change the colors in preferences???? bringing the stuff into Beyce works well, but you cannot do it if you need to change something because it deletes the previous stuff...so its all or nothing...or you can break an objects ling to DS, but then you can't change it anymore. That linkage thing needs to be changed somehow...or perhaps a check in the attributes box where you can link and unlink at will to only bring back and forth what you want at that moment.
