helo i'm noticing my vue is crashing alot. it crashed recently when i tried using Envitonmental option in the atmosphere editing. it crashes other times when i for example, when i add the green long leaf plant. the long green leaf plant is about the only one thta makes it crash. the trees work fine, it's just this plant. strange it crashes other times when i make some rendering settings it crashes in many ways , i just got my version and it says there is no updates, but then when i go to the e-on site, it says there is an update( in beta) i think 5.06 or something, right? should i get this new update manually?( since vue's update checker doesn't think there is any updates). and will it solve the crashing and crashing that i'm experiencing? thanks VIVA VUE USErs, forever!!!!!!!!!

Give it a try, you can always roll back the the previous version.

What OS version are you using? And yes, do the manual update and give it a try. Last but not least, when you have so many crashes you should check wether you have something on your system that causes the incompatibility. I for example have not many crashes right now!

Vue5inf keeps crashing on Mac OSX and on Windows XP. The internal memory management seems to be a mess. If you monitor memory usage you can see Vue fills up your ram, crashes and leaves a mess. 5.06 upd. doesn't help. It was like that with 4.5, no change in 5. A pity, the features, procedural terrain, functions and eco system are straight forward. Best gerhard

Strange, it does not crash here - not on Mac, nor on Windows. Must be a system incompatibility. I found indeed that some applications does not go together very well on Mac. Like Yahoo messenger with Vue - or Photoshop with Quark XPress.

Hi Esther, how did you find out your ram was faulty? Gerhard

Well when I first bought my G5 2 gig dual last year when they were new technology, my puter used to randomly crash all the time, so I took the puter to the shop. They tried (so they said) replacing all my ram, but the fault continued, so then they replaced the mother board, but the fault continued, then they said it was faulty ram (gee I must have had exactly the same fault in it twice) and they replaced it. AFter this my puter didn't crash when I wasn't touching it and nothing was running, but I still have had lots of crashes, particularly when using vue, particularly if I render a big pic without saving the whole scene first. eg if I move the camera a bit and try and render it would crash in ultra. Anyway I'm getting the G5 2.7 dual and trading in my other G5 but keeping the 4G of extra ram that I had in the old G5, so they said they could migrate all my stuff across for me and it would then be installed in tiger but would be just like my old computer (except new of course). Well the migration didn't go smoothly. they tried and tried, and onlly succeeded when they took the ram out of my new G5 that had been in my old G5. So anyway, they have found I have faulty ram and asked me if I get lots of crashes, beccause he reckons OS X is very stable and hardly ever crashes, but then he probably hasn't got poser and vue. So anyway that's the whole story (leaving out all the stamping my feet and swearing etc). Love esther ps well you asked hehe

Gosh, what a story!! I wish you better luck in the future! Gerhard

Thanks Gerhard. Well the new G5 will have tiger installed. Test pilots call a new technology experimental airplane a tiger. Hopefully I get my new computer on monday and I sure hope it plays okay with poser and vue (I am aware of the various issues with poser 6 and the soon to be fix). Love esther

If you want to test the ram yourself, boot off the hardware testing CD that came with the machine and run a check. Also you can use the mac version memtest 4.05 ( a command line item) or with a gui shell, rember. Do a google and download the utilities. manowar
