Subject: Editor and Toolbox for Poser

Do you need some tools to facilitate your work with Poser files? The Poser File Editor is an editor for Poser files that has many useful tools and editors integrated. The Toolbox for Poser is a collection of eight small and easy to use tools. The Poser File Editor mainly addresses advanced users who have some knowledge about the structure of Poser files and who have some experience in editing Poser files. The tools of the toolbox only require some basic understanding of the Poser features they address. For more information, see the manuals of the Poser File Editor and the Toolbox for Poser or try the Poser File Editor demo. And don't miss the Poser File Organizer, the batch processor for Poser files to clear up your Poser Runtime.

The Poser File Editor displays the content of a Poser file in a hierarchically structured tree. The basic editing capabilities like copy/paste and search/replace are adjusted to the specifics of Poser files. There are integrated editors for file references, materials, morph parameters, alternate geometries, and figure structure. The tools allow you to convert a file to any kind of pose, to reset parameter values, to add scripts for morph injections, to replace figure geometries for conforming clothing, to extract embedded geometry as an obj-file, to turn on/off IK, and to do several other useful things.

The Toolbox for Poser contains eight different tools. With File References, you can edit all file references in a Poser file. Convert to Pose converts a Poser file to any kind of pose including morph and material poses. Inject Morph Scripts adds all needed scripts into a morph pose to inject or remove morphs. Using Extract Embedded Geometry, you can extract and replace the geometry embedded in some Poser files. With Inverse Kinematics, you can turn IK on and off, remove it, and prevent leg IK to be turned on by Poser even if it is off. Conforming Clothing replaces the geometry of a figure and converts it to a conforming clothing. With Create Morph Injections, you can export morphs as injectable morphs. The Poser Compressor is a simple tool to (de)compress Poser and obj files.

Your tools look great. I have a 60 gig Poser Pro runtime. I now have P5 and P6. I would like to convert my runtime from 1 massive soup mix to individual runtimes like V3, aiko etc. Which of your tools would be best suited for the job, Toolbox for Poser or Poser File Organizer? Cheerio lululee

To reorganize your Runtimes, the Poser File Organizer is the ideal tool. It has a feature to move poser files together with all referred external files from one Runtime to another. And unlike the other tools, it can process several files at once, automatically fixing file references, correcting P4 bump settings for P5/P6, extracting geometries, and other things to get a well organized and working Runtime.

Regards, Ralf.

PS: If you use the compression features of the Poser File Organizer, your Runtime might shrink a bit :)

Can this utility convert MAT pose files to P6 material collections? and/or could you make a utility that did that?

You can convert MAT pose files to P6 MAT collections simply by changing the extension and moving it from the pose lib to the materials lib. "Poser includes a built-in compatibility feature, which enables you to simply change the extension of your MAT files to MC6 or MCZ, and Poser will recognize them as Material Collections." (P6 manual)
Only one difference remains: the material collection has the keyword mtlCollection, the MAT pose the keyword figure. Probably, there is not much need for a tool that changes just the keyword, but it's easy to make one.

Actually I was hoping for something more along the lines of a utility that would allow you to select and convert(move/rename) in mass. I have had one problem with the "move and rename the file" instructions. (I have reported it to CL and hopefully it will be fixed) MAT pose files for props renamed to MC6 do not work. They work just fine as pose files, and if you make a MC6 in P6 they will apply if your prop is not parented, but renaming the MAT pose file doesn't work for props.

I see, MAT poses for props are something special and rarely used.

I plan a free batch mode for the next release of the Poser File Organizer that will allow to define own batch processes of the kind "if a line starts with XXX, replace the line by YYY" or more complex conditions and replacements. This would help, but it's just an idea at the moment.

For now, I would use a text editor that allows replacing in several files at once and replace "actor $CURRENT" by "mtlCollection". There are tools for renaming extensions of several files at once, one is included in the Poser File Organizer, but there should be also free ones. At least, you can do mass conversion this way, but in separate steps.

Or you can hope for the announced SR1 for Poser 6.

MAT poses for props are something special and rarely used. uh. hair? ;-P Seems most hair on the market is prop hair and most of them have MAT pose files. One request if you implament the batch process replacements in PFO. put in a way to save the settings. Having to completly set up the batch process from scratch every time you buy/install a new product with MAT pose files you want as MC6s would be a pain in the butt. :)

You're right, MAT poses for hair props are very common. I used MAT poses for other props in my Jewelry Construction Kit and had to find out that there are several strange things about them, so I had those in mind.

To have a way to store and reuse the settings for the batch processing is something that I want to have too, but it's all just an idea at the moment, the details have to wait until I implement it.

You might want to change the name for your 'Toolbox' since there's another program by that name that's been around for a few months. It can cause some confusion.

It looks like a nice set of tools, but there is a Poser modeler (reads and writes Poser file formats) called ToolBox that I have had out for most of last year. It is also currently available through DAZ. It is a little confusing since they are both sets of tools for working with Poser models and files. David Greenbriar Studio

Sorry, I didn't want to cause any confusion with other programs. I changed the name to "Tool Collection for Poser".

Thanks. And it looks like a very useful tool set. Poser tools slowly progress! David
