I have never been able to convert my images to black and white. Mainly some sort of block for me. I love color. Of course when I see a good B/W image I always wish I could do it. I'm not sure I'm happy with this one. I have several pics of clouds like this but I never like the ground, so I cropped it in this one. Anyone have suggestions for making it any better? PS I love Pascale's image in the earlier post. That's what got me experimenting. :)

I was referring to the image of the couple holding hands. :) Where you used Rich's conversion technique. Here is the original color one. I love the way the clouds look, but I'm not sure if they are gallery-worthy. Any suggestions to make them "come to life"?

Beautiful cloud photo! I must say I prefer the original one best. I also have much to learn about b/w...sorry I have no advice to offer for such matters, but maybe try the mirror effect? :-) -Jeff

Depends what you want it to look like - how about dramatic.

That looks better. Yes, dramatic is what I like. I'm going to have to save those instructions somewhere. I haven't played with adjustments much yet, but would like to learn. Thank you so much, Rich! :)

the b/w looks awesome!!! if you play with the sliders a bit in the channel mixer you'd be surprised what the differences will be. for mine i usually use the start with the following r 65 g 35-45 (personal prefrences will do) b 2 constant +2-+4 i constantly play with the r and g slider to get the right tones, again those settings above are just a starting point, final adjustments go from there. also i convert to lab color and play with the light and dark channels but this will alter the color version by giving it a greenish tint, i only do this when i know the shot is going to be b/w. hope this is of assistance!! Apparently I need to make the color version of this one for my gallery. :) I have several like this where I'm just not happy with the ground. yes, the original is great Damia and even though I haven't seen the real original (uncropped) I really like ur cropping on it! Now, decision decision....the tough part! ;P Good luck dear!

Wow...since the first post recently on bw conversion appeared several others have. This is good! I really like to see these attempts and successes. Go for it! Look for the other threads further down and lots of good advice is there...here and there. It has sure helped me a bunch. :)
