Ok, here it goes! This pic took me about 2 days to *try* to pose the mermen. I then stumbled onto Schlabbers new site (v 2.0) and I saw the perfect poses for these two. It looks like one is trying to give a Vulcan mindmeld to the other, but in actuallity he is just trying to touch his face. Sorry for the subject matter, but to look at art with an objective mind is the key. Hope you like it! I love the way the caustics came out! BTW, this picture is digimarc'ed. Mery meet and merry part, Tankred (who discovered that he had the gamma correction turned on and turned it off. looks MUCH better :P)

ok..new rule suggestion... NO IMAGE CAN BE NEARLY 1 MEG IN SIZE FOR THIS CONTEST (this one is 847432 bytes!)...lol..really we need a file size limitation... this thing took so long to download that if Id have had the scene, Id have just rendered it...(took 8 minutes..I timed it) ok, now that Im done with the file download time, I love the caustics..very nicely done.. and Im a bit jealous of the rock material...I wish I'd have used something similar on some of the rocks in the one I did. as for the two merman dudes...the textures are very nice.. over all the image is great... but look into a compressor..almost noone will wait this long to see a image :P later BT

what are caustics??

brycetech ( ) posted Tue, 06 February 2001 at 2:04 PM

trad... caustics are the "lines of light" created by water waves when light shines thru it... look above, you can see them on the floor of the image... without them the image doesnt feel as "underwater-ish" :) BT
