Subject: Why is my background pic disappearing when I render the scene?

Anybody ever import a background pic, and have it disappear when the image renders? Why is this happening?

Is the background picture larger than the texture max in the render settings?

Put the picture you want on the single sided square from your primitives in the props library. Then scale the single sided square up to the size you want it to fill the background. Think of the single sided square as a billboard with your background picture on it. Caution: Don't use the double sided square or the hi-res square, you'll get weird artifacts in your render if you do.

PapaBlue, no that doesn't appear to be the problem. Fazzel, thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it. Still am puzzled though as to why the background pic is disappearing. Never had that problem before...

Just to check, in rendering are you making sure you have checked off "render over background image?".

Fazzel ( ) posted Sun, 22 May 2005 at 2:27 PM

What I like about turning the background into a prop is that you can move it around and rescale it so as to make the background fit your characters instead of trying to force your characters into fitting into the background.

Again, what version of Poser are you using? In Poser 4, go to the Render Settings and make sure the option for "Render over background picture" is checked. In P5 and P6, make sure you attach your background image to the "BackgroundColor" node, NOT directly to the "PoserSurface" node. There is still a bug in Poser which causes any nodes attached to the Background's PoserSurface node to become disconnected (except the "BackgroundColor" node). This happens as soon as you leave the Material Room, which is why backgrounds may not render correctly. Even if you delete the "BackgroundColor" node (thinking it's not needed), it will re-appear when you go back into the Material Room. The solution is set the "BackgroundColor" node to white and attach your nodes to it- whether it's a 2d image or something more complex. As a side note, even if you click the "Remove Detached Nodes" Wacro button (to delete the "Background Movie" node and such), these nodes will be re-created when you re-enter the Material Room. They won't be attached to anything, but they'll still be there. --John

Thanks to all. I've resolved the issue thanks to your input. I was running Poser 5, and didn't have the proper box checked in the render options.
