Subject: It's Back!!!

patmartj ( ) posted Mon, 23 May 2005 at 4:54 AM · edited Mon, 02 December 2024 at 9:57 AM

Got my camera back today! Now I can go play again. Hooray I got to say I am not impressed by Sony though. I sent it away double boxed and registered. It came back in it's own box and a half opened plastic bag with a blank delivery note by free post. Can't wait for this evening to go out and shoot. Just hope it doesn't rain again

Congrats on getting your cam back. I just went through a similar experience w/my Panasonic. I got my original box back...but they didn't fix the problem. Hope yours is all good now. If it is then I'm more impressed w/Sony than Panasonic. -Jeff :-)

Thanks everyone, I don't know if they did anything they didn't say and I haven't had time to try out on low light shots, that was where the problem lay. I had hoped to do so tonight but had to go out and now it's raining. Anyway now I will be trying as much as possible to get it all correct. Hugs all round, it's so good to be back

patmartj, The problem w/my cam is so miniscule I am wondering if it is even worth it. There are a few errant pixels in the upper left of each photo, sometimes noticable. It is most evident against a dark background like a night sky. It is a tiny spot that's easily fixed in PS. According to my research it is most likely a CCD manufacturing defect. I was very clear to Panasonic's third party repair center about the problem, and even sent three detailed prints along w/my camera so there would be no mistake. They said it just needed cleaning and the invoice said it was "fixed/ and "tested & within manufactuer's specifications" or something to that effect. I say "Whatever"...I am thinking that perhaps it was an honest mistake made by the tech., and I haven't quite made up my mind yet whether to take action or not, but I may call/write Panasonic and complain. I had better hurry though because it's been about two weeks since I got it back. I don't want to have to pay 20 or so dollars for shipping and wait more time again just to have my camera "cleaned", dismantled...and bounced around, and after this incident I'm not confident they will fix it properly. I think this repair center deal is lame and that such a new piece of equipment should be replaced w/a flawless product...not "repaired". Typically these big corporations use refurbished parts for repairs because they are so cheap. They should pay for all shipping and send a letter of appology begging for my forgiveness. Do they do this? No...they just send an invoice w/some lame lie scribbled on it like "fixed". I'm thinking if I contact them again I will have to demand they send me a brand new cam in exchange for this one. If they don't then maybe I will complain to corporate headquarters. Now that I have just written the above, I am getting very angry about this, and think I just may have to say something. Not that my camera is really damaged...but it just seems the right thing to do. -Jeff :-)

Oh dear, I hope you get somewhere with it. Myself if mine is the same I'll just count it as a bad job and make sure I don't bye sony again. Can't go through sending it off and waiting a month for it to come back probly no better. So Good Luck if you do. Pat
