Subject: Derivative nodes: du, dv, dpdv etc

What all this nodes are for? I was trying to attach and play a bit with these shader nodes, but when Firefly was reaching the material, it just stopped rendering. The reference manual just gives zero information as usually.
Anyone any clue?

Du crashed firefly, the others work but do fairly odd things. They measure things like rate of change, so you could use them to make edges look different to the rest of a material, or U and V directions

Rite, thats exactly what i want, but just didnt try P4 render engine. though why does Firefly crash?

So it crashed P4 rendering for me. :) Ill keep on trying.

No - the DU node crashes all the rendering engines The other nodes do not. Only the DU node is broken. The other nodes work fine in all rendering engine, the Du node is broken in all of them

The problem with the Du node may be related to name discrepancy mentioned in posts 8 & 9 in the linked thread.
