I have finally done an image after 7 months of some severe Brycers Block. Also this is my first real render with Bryce 5.5. I would very much appreciate your comments and or crits to this image. Thank you in advance.

Textures & components look great, my only crit would be drama. You have the ingredients for a scary or macabre scene. Maybe try a different camera angle, reposition the barrels to where they block part of the view(like you're hiding behind the barrels watching the story unfold). Finally the lighting can come from the torches, yet have the scene slightly darker and a directional light coming from behind the cameras view. Great start to a long block. Been there. Keep us updated. ICM/Rod

The spider would be scarier facing the camera, as if threatening the viewer. The textures and models are convincing.

Glad to see you getting over your slump buddy; I know what you mean because I've been there, lol. I really like what you've come up with here, though I do agree with the comments so far. One observation if I may? Most of the castle dungeons and cellars I have seen have vaulted, or barrel vaulted ceilings, not for aesthetics, but as a way to support the tremendous weight of the rest of the stone structure resting on top of this foundation level. I think unsupported horizontal stonework might be impractical in the RW. Just my .02 pfennigs.

with such a big spider there should be some cobwebs and the barrels are to samey put a difrent texture on some.

for some free stuff i made
and for almost daily fotos

The torches seem a little too transparant. Otherwise its a spooky great image!

Hey, Wade, very nice setup, sir, looks like a capture from some high-end video game, looking forward to see finished image ! :D

I feel that the lighting needs work as to begin with I thought the spider's body was a rock and wondered what the odd green things were... I agree about changing the camera angle. But I don't think there's much drama about an already dead person and a spider... now if there was one skeleton (or more) and one cowering living person... that would be more dramatic, I think. And yes, it needs webs. Fran

Here's an idea Wade, for what it's worth. Have you ever used Apophosys? It's a freeware fractal program which makes cool flames and such. Some of the output looks a lot like cobwebs and it would be a simple matter to turn them into a transmap for a terrain, or for a 2D object.

Swade ( ) posted Thu, 26 May 2005 at 1:21 PM

Hey Dan... Thanks for the idea. I have never used Apophosys but have seen it referred to. I will have to try that out. Good idea. Thanks. 8) Thanks Fran. I have thought like you that this might look better with at least one live body in it.... Not sure which it will be though.... An adventurer, wizard, warrior, or possibly a group of adventurers.
