I cleaned mine out not to long ago. I was running fine until now .

Running OK for me... However - I'm still getting the Poser "Out of Memory" message when trying to do some production quality renders. Clint

ClintH did you remove the Poser6sr1.exe from the zip before you run the updater, as it wont update p6 from the .ZIP, easy way to check if your P6 is properly updated is run P6 click on help in the menu then on "about poser" and look at the version no, which if it updated properly should be 6.0.1.75 (if i remember correctly) and not 6.0.0.38 can say myself that the memory thing doesnt appear now as mine used up my 1gb of ram then moved onto 2gb's of virtual ram without any warning on the maximum render settings. so im happy...(so far...) ohh and it don't seam slower either...or run funny....
Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.
Hi shedofjoy, Yes, I'm now running on 6.0.1.75..so the patch installed fine. Win2K Pro 1gb PC2700 DDR memory The maps I'm using are 4000x4000 each .. So they are pretty large skin and head maps. Once it throws the memory error the materials for the figure get all wacked out as well. Meaning it loses some of the material settings for the textures. (shrugs) If I reduce the Bucket Size to 32 it works fine. Its when the bucket size gets set to 64 that Poser gets unhappy. Clint

Well shows ya how smart I am, I though I just needed more hard drive space! I don't want to take your extra memory!, Is it exspensive? We have a Circut City around here, I can check it out. Thanks Kiddo ;o)

It still appears to be using far more memory than it needs to for complex material setups. It also handles running out of memory in those situations very poorly, dropping textures, dialog boxes that don't paint correctly, etc. But for the situations where it was reporting a memory error but the memory in use by it wasn't nearly that high it appears to work somewhat better. Of the two scenes I have that caused problems only one seems better with this service pack. The other (a single SP3 using the Daz Heiress character texture and some hair, no clothes, no scene, no props) still won't render with firefly even with max texture size set to 512. Startup seems much slower than before. Before it would do the hang and dance once a day or so, but later startups would go faster. Now it seems to want to hang and dance every time I start it. -Matt

Well I'll have to look at Best buy and see what they have :)

I've also noticed that it has a tendency to want to dissappear from the taskbar as well while it is running. It still remains accessible via the task manager though.
I'm running the first of some render tests right now....hopefully I will be able to have some more infor for you on the memory issues later.

The memory problem is still there. It gets all the way to the end of a production quality render and flashes the error message again. Memory usage is excessive while rendering (nearly 2 gigs on a 570x350 image) as well. Ah well...good thing that I still have Poser 5 installed :(

I just tried 2 V3's, 1 M3, clothes and hair set it to full, 800 x 800 window and got the memory error, plus a new one "a texture can't be found or not enough memory to load it" So looks as though I may be doomed to run at the setting down from full.... Have to see what happens when I pump the XP 3200 up to 2 gig ram - currently 1 gig... Such is life..... Clint could be on the right track.

What other settings did you have Clint? I tried reducing bucket size only from full settings still no go...

Well I reduced the bucket size ,and now its running better :) Or maybe it just healed itself!

So far -- based upon about 4hrs. worth of experience last night -- P6 SR1 is a solid improvement.
Will I still think that in a couple of days? We'll see........
I have successfully rendered one complex scene that always crashed P6 before SR1.
I am very pleased by that.
P6 SR1 rendered the scene faster than before, too. Which is nice -- but actually completing the render was the main thing.
Have to see what happens when I pump the XP 3200 up to 2 gig ram - currently 1 gig...
I have 2G of RAM.
My heavily raytraced and populated scene used almost all of it. I tracked system resources as the render was in progress.
But it worked.
For some reason, this suggestion upsets some people -- but I'd say that 2G (or more) is the way to go.
P6 uses 'em all.
how do you know how much ram your computer will allow you to have?
In my case, I just went to the HP website, and looked up the specs for my model of PC. Your PC's manufacturer should have this type of information on their website.
But this might not be as easy to do if you've got an off-brand machine, or a custom-built job.
In that case, you might have to figure out what type of motherboard you've got -- and then look up the data for it.
Hope that this helps.........
It doesn't hurt to look up the motherboard anyway. According to all the specs based on my PC's make & model, it can hold up to 1 GB (2 512-MB sticks). According to the motherboard specs, it can hold up to 2 GB (2 1-GB sticks).
Mine currently contains 1.25 GB (1-GB + 256-MB), so the motherboard specs are clearly the correct ones.
"I have 2G of RAM. My heavily raytraced and populated scene used almost all of it. I tracked system resources as the render was in progress." I am beginning to think that is the only way to go Ram, Ram Ram, but why on earth do most MB makers only put 3 slots on the things? And why is a 1 gig stick 3 times the cost of a 512 stick? One of the great mysteries of life....

So peoples did it help or hurt ya? My P6 is running worse than before, things are taking longer to open, and it seems to freeze for awhile before it lets go and I can do anything. I'm a sad puppy 8(
