Subject: Who are the best posers?

DCArt ( ) posted Fri, 27 May 2005 at 4:25 PM · edited Wed, 13 November 2024 at 9:04 AM

Poser is all about posing, right? In terms of "realistic" poses ... taking into account body parts that are posed realistically and within natural limits; lack of stiffness; taking little things such as hand and eye poses into account; and useability ... which folks in the Poser community create the best poses? Schlabber, of course, is well known. I also give a nod to Danie (of Danie and Marforno fame), as I have yet to see a pose of hers that I don't like. I want to give some of these folks a mention in da book. 8-)

Like....Ashlee Simpson...Anne Coulter...*

Ashlee Simpson - yes.

Anne Coulter - no.

In order for one to qualify as a 'poser' (in this sense), then one must be pretending to be something that one is not.

Anne Coulter doesn't fit that definition.

I could throw in a few examples of persons who most definitely are "posers" -- but politics are a no-no.

In the other sense of 'poser':

Schlabber - Bluebeard - Digiport - sprinter......many others.

It's hard to pick a 'best' poser. Many are good at it.

I agree, and I know everyone's opinions will be different. So I thought it would give a good cross section by putting it "out there" so to speak.

My joke is now totally off topic, but anyway...

"Anne Coulter doesn't fit that definition."

I'm not playing partisan, there are plenty of political pundit posers to go around of all stripes. She's just one of the loudest and dumbest.

One of my favorite Anne Coulter moments was the time she was being interviewed by a Canadian journalist, talking about Canada's participation in Iraq, etc. She identified them as an historic good friend of the U.S., giving the example of how they sent troops to help us out in Vietnam. When the kind Canadian journalist had to correct her, informing her that in fact Canada had never done such a thing, she insisted he was wrong, said she'd get back to him on that and then never did. Funny stuff.

She's a joke - whatever her politics are. I understand the need for bombastic loudmouths, whatever the political party, but I don't respect them one bit - a poser through and through.

Edited to add link to interview.

IMO, it don' matter who made a pose, or how "good" that pose is....is gonna be wrong fer my use. I'm not sayin' I don' use 3rd party poses, but when I do they're simply a starting point to tweak & alter to the point when the finished pose will look nuttin' like the original. But thas jus me, & no offense intended to the "Great Posers" in the community.

Passerelle. His latest batch is very good. No side to sides on forearms or shins. No 60o neck twists.

Acadia ( ) posted Fri, 27 May 2005 at 10:13 PM

I use premade poses, but usually tweak a bit here and there in order to get the feel for the way the figure moves. I relate movement by joints (hip, knee, ankle), in poser it's twisted and done by body part (IE: thigh, shin, foot). That takes some getting used to. I haven't been able to make my own poses because they come out looking like pretzels, but premade poses with some tweaking works for me :). One day I'll be able to do my own poses, but not today, hehe

Acadia, your type of posing is the kind that I think is most beneficial to a lot of artists. I always look for a pose that is similar to what I want. I apply it and then spend a couple of hours tweaking it into what I want. It would take me days to get one pose if it weren't for the freebies out there. So a big thanks to you folks who post freebie poses (doesn't even matter which character it's for).

I'm not playing partisan, there are plenty of political pundit posers to go around of all stripes. She's just one of the loudest and dumbest.

An example of a 'poser' would be someone that's actually a Democrat and a liberal calling up a radio talk show -- and claiming to be both Republican and conservative.

And then proceeding to trash Republicans and conservatives......all under the color of being one of them.

Happens all the time.

But Anne Coulter a poser? Nahhh. For that to be true: she'd have to be a closet liberal.

I don't think so..........

Besides, she's good at attracting attention. She's gotten yours.

And she seems to thrive under virulent opposition.

Not many people can do that.

One recurring life-theme of true 'posers': they frequently end up being outed for what they actually are. Message edited on: 05/27/2005 23:42

Yep. That's a good approach.

Ditto. Most of the time.

Diandra (known at DAZ as "Diane") does beautiful, elegant poses, IMHO. Who cares which folks in the Poser community create the best poses? Deecey, apparently, or they wouldn't have started this thread. I just have to wonder, what's it to you if people do or don't care about pose creators? Maybe they want to know so they can look for poses made by those people. Or isn't that a good enough reason to ask in your book of ultimate wisdom and the all-important list of What People Should and Should Not Care About? bonni

Who cares which folks in the Poser community create the best poses? I'm trying to teach people how to take a pose, and modify it to suit their needs. It is easier and less time consuming to modify a pose that is already posed realistically than it is to correct each and every joint in a figure that has not been posed with care.

That's a round-about way of calling her stupid. Any 3rd grader on a playground can do the same.....only with less posing in the process.

"Stupid" and "poser" are not synonyms. "Poser" is a closer match with "hypocrite" than it is with "stupid". And some hypocrites are extremely intelligent people.

Disagreement is not legitimate grounds for assuming a lack of intelligence on the part of another. That's one big mistake that GWB's enemies keep making.

In his own way, Bill Clinton is a very intelligent man. He isn't stupid.

That ain't a compliment.

But he is a poser par excellence.
