Subject: OT - Need help - Can you check 2 web sites for me?

webmaster421 ( ) posted Sat, 28 May 2005 at 4:12 PM · edited Sun, 23 February 2025 at 10:59 AM

I know this is waayyy OT, but I could use some input on 2 web sites that I recently created. Would you look at the 2 of them and let me know if they look OK on your end? One of them especially as I may have some bad coding on it. It looks OK on my end, but I have a feeling it may not look right on other people's computers. Also, how's the load time? Longer than 20 seconds? The first, the one with the most possible problems is: http://www.haydenlakehouse.com/indexA.html The other is one is most likely OK, but it sure would help to get some feedback before I start on the search engine stuff: http://www.papillonhandbags.com Please let me know if anything looks funny or wrong, will you? Thanks EVER so much! --Vicki

About haydenlakehouse: the frontpage looks fine in IE6/WinXP SP2. But the links are dead, referring to unsaved:///whatever. Load time is fine on my 3Mbit DSL connection, less than a second. About papillonhandbags; everything works fine as far as I an see (no, I didn't order a handbag, wouldn't know what to do with it! LOL!). Loads fast on my connection. Hope this helps, Stevne.

Thank you svdl! Ooops! I guess I should have mentioned that the Hayden Lake House site is no where near completion - it's just the page I gave the URL for. I need to make sure that page is A-OK before I start putting the rest of the site together. So, that's why the links go nowhere at this point! :-D Thanks for making me giggle svdl, about the handbag comment! hehehe Thanks for looking for me... Anyone else have any input about these sites - would love to hear from anyone on dial-up connections and/or those using browsers other than IE. Thanks again!

I think the sites look great :). The colors vs the lettering size & color looks great. No eye strain is always good. The handbag site is XLT as well. I love the entrance design.. Great work :)

The sites look ok, in Opera, but there's lot of bad code in them. Just try http://validator.w3.org/ on them...

Thanks for your input dlk30341! Thank you Dizzi - I knew there were a ton of flaws in the codes and I am currently working on them, but I was wondering how the sites looked despite the bad coding. Thanks for your input! Keep the comments and input coming - it's really important to me and I thank you very much in advance for taking the time to go look and to let me know! Hope all is having a great weekend so far!

Two comments on first site Reservation number should be moved slightly down, you are going into the upper graphic. Also first paragraph, move the picture slightly down so the last sentence doesn't end under the picture. On second site, the Papillon graphic in the top left is hard to read, you have lots of room. Make it larger and a bit bolder. The three diamond fabric has a moire pattern that is noticeable in it. I would cleanup the left side a little more so it doesn't repeat so noticeably. Other than that, very nice starts. - Noel

Ah! Thanks spiritual! That's helpful - will do soon! I will most likely make changes on Monday - or Tuesday depending on time factors, so getting the input before then is a lot of help! :-D

With a proper doctype declaration (which site 2 lacks) there's a greater chance the page look the same in different browsers ,-)

Thank you Dizzi - I will add that on Mon or Tues. Appreciate the help very much!

Mac OSX here running Firefox.

The first site is perfect - I don't see anything wrong.

Some of the text colours on the second site storefront were a bit hard to read. The light gold labels under the handbags are hard to distinguish from the white background. Maybe if you made them a little darker. Just my opinion and my old eyes. ;-)

Thanks PilotHigh! Gotta love them 'ole eyes! I'll change the font color on the ones you mentioned. Thank you!
