I dont like the material on this robot, so tell me youre sugestions what kind of "texture" would you place on it. Its all done with booleans. How can I place laser beams on sniper?

hey looks cool, nice boolean model. the texture looks like a shiny marble, maybe not the ideal for a robot ;). there are several free metal texture here, try to download a couple of them (or try to make a camo texture, should also be cool) laser beams can be added in photoshop, but there is a leser beam texture in the material library, under volumetrics material. remember to add a cylindrical light to the lases beams in order to make it work.

i think it's quite nice. it's very hard to do some proper metal-work on boolean modelling.. i don't know. like vasq said... but it's still cool! :D

Aye, good stuff! A great model... For laser-beams, simply select one of the cylinders caring out the inside. Duplicate it (Ctrl-D). On the Edit Palette (top), click one of the little triangle tabs below the scaler or mover and select "Object Space". Now pull either Y-axis scaler and stretch the cylinder out along it's long axis. Now, it's just a material game. Try some presets, in the volume section there are a few. You may also need to Duplicate the cylinder again and "Convert" it to a Light using the little lefty-righty arrows on the Edit Palette. Good luck with this, I'll make you a screenshot if this text isn't making any sense...

I think I can follow these steps. But if its not to big problem, make a screenshot, it will help. Thanks

You've managed to create a robot that is both cute and lethal. :-)

Also for laser beams, you can always use a cylindrical spotlight. Make it volume visible, no falloff (or leave in falloff if you want it to gradually disappear), and infinite light. Also you must color it of course =) This has the advantage of parts of the beam disappearing when it strikes something. If you use cylinders, you have to boolean; with a spotlight, it does it for you. Could work well for a targeting laser, that doesn't just go through things. If you do use cylinders, I recommend the "greenlit" texture in the "complex FX" category. If you use this, I hate leaving it as a single color. I always put a smaller cylinder inside the beam, colored white. Check out some of my earlier pix in my gallery (most noteably "surgical strike") for an example of this if you are interested. =)

My criticism has to do with the size of the feet. They are far too small. Your robot will bog down in soft ground and have a hard time balancing on uneven ground too.

I actually like that material. The feet ARE a bit small though.
