Does anyone know a free online storage who lett you share your files with others? The obp file is 83mb, but I got it down to 43.5 with Winrar. Winzip didnt compress that good. I was planning to share this model with you, but I have to find somewhere to put it. I know there are sites out there, I just havent been able to find any. And I'm not quite ready to share the 3ds file yet ;)

Oh and I forgot. The model have 149 objects so its fairly detailed. You can put different texture to about anything on the model.

hmm... ehmmm... it's GREAT! way too alien and strange! (sorru but I have no info regarding web hosting)

I did a whole bunch of research on free web hosting. If you go to Google and type in "free web hosting" it'll come up with dozens of places. Anywhere from 25 mb to 1 Gb. Some have advertising but alot of the 500 mb sites have no ads or banners. There's even a site that rates all the free web hosters out there, but I lost the URL when I had to wipe my drive. The model is lookin' nastay! (meaning good). Very original. You should drop the moron part on your handle.

Free hosting is ok, but some have tiny upload permits. ie: you can only upload files of 5mb or less....

That is a friggin cool model!!!!! Wish I could help you out with the free storage sites.... but I don't know much about them.

A suggestion to make the file size smaller .. split the model up into five scenes instead of one OBP file - the Center section in one scene and each support into four scenes (or two supports per scene). You can then zip them up as separate files and the users can merge the scenes to get the compelete model.

jelisa ( ) posted Tue, 31 May 2005 at 11:45 AM

Or ... provide just the center section and one support in two scenes with instructions on duplicating the support and placing them correctly.

OoooOOOOOOoooooh, I WANT it - it's way weird. It's a pity there isn't a list of free web hosting sites somewhere here on R'osity.

Well bandolin, I think i'll hang on to the moron part. I was so hung up on storage solutions I totally forgot about the free web hosting part. I'll see what I can do with that. Maby I can get some more of my models out there. And thanks all :o)

Keep me posted. I've got a bunch of HTML pages ready for upload. Problem being, I can't decide who to go with. I'd like to choose a permanent home for my stuff. My provider charges an astronomical amount above the free 20 mb. 20mB, what joke! I've got word files bigger'n 20mB. My current website(warning: shameless plug) personal websitecan only hold 2 of my flash animations. I've got no 3D there. Its basically a repository for my portfolio and a FRP game I developed with a friend of mine. I figure I need at least 1 Gb to hold all the stuff I'd like to post. Freebie models and what not. I wonder if my space size is realistic. I should post a message asking what others' needs have been.

Amazing model! I don't know squat about hosting. Maybe those TurboSquid guys could help ...

Vile ( ) posted Thu, 02 June 2005 at 12:20 AM

I have some awesome textures that could go on that let me know if you post it for free!

lordstormdragon ( ) posted Thu, 02 June 2005 at 2:08 AM

Great model, it really looks good! I agree with Jelisa. If the four legs are identical, remove three of them. Duplicating them through is simple and relatively painless, one of Bryce's only "modeling" features. Or, try cutting down on the poly count. There are many, many unnecessary polys in this model, for it to be so large. Not that it's not complex, but optimization is a necessary technique to learn...
