Sorry to post this here, but I wasn't getting any responses on the 2D forum. I promise to post a new dragon map in Poser free stuff in compensation. grin I recieved an email offer from Corel to upgrade to Painter 6 for $159.99. Anyone out there who has P6 and can tell me if it's worth the upgrade cost? Also, 6 has been out on the market for quite a while now and I'm wondering if they might be trying to dump all the version 6's before premeiring a new version 7... and I'll wind up being behind a version again! Any info would be appreciated.

It's probably worth it; Painter6 supports CMYK.

Painter 6 is great, I love it, but I don't know when they're going to upgrade to 7.0 so it's a tough call. Marque

I use Painter 6.1 ("Free" updater from 6.0) and it is a great improvement over 5.5, (at least the MAC version). As I recall, they were going to release a new version "within the next 12 months".

Cool, thanks willf. I love my 6.1, course, got to re-install it now after my big meltdown....lol I also have Deep Paint for Photoshop, and I use it too, but I do love the image hoses and my jungle 3D software. It's worth getting the update if it's going to be around year before they go to version 7 You will be surprised at the difference in the versions. Marque

That's ok Gem, I dropped a ton of money this summer too, I think it's that instant gratification thing on the internet...lol. Check out Dementia's site she has some cool free image hoses. Marque

Considering Corel simply 'bought' Painter 6, put their name on the box, and are STILL charging 400 bucks for it after it's WAY over a year old... really T's me off. They obviously paid out more than they could afford for the Metacreations software that they bought. They've been keeping the the prices (on ALL of them) higher than they normally would have been by this time. Here's a picture of Corel's CEO's in training...

Painter 7 will receive the full Corel upgrade treatment in the autumn. Bryce 5 to be released this spring, The program is being revised to take advantage of the multiprocessor capabilities of Apple's OS X. Info from: http://www.computercreative.com/ Staale

Norbert, At least they did pick it up, and they have already made improvements to it. You can bet that MetaC didn't let it go cheap, and I can tell you now that their tech support and just plain support for the program is way beyond what I ever got from MetaC. How many companies can you name offhand that would send a CD out for nothing to replace a CD that broke even when you bought the product while the other company owned it? I support Corel for what they did, and as far as the price, I paid closer to $500 for it when I bought my copy. I think Painter is a strong product, and when 7.0 comes out I will be upgrading.
