Subject: PMD files in P6

Huolong ( ) posted Wed, 08 June 2005 at 8:36 PM · edited Tue, 11 February 2025 at 6:50 AM

What use are PMD files created by P6 when PZ3, PP2 or CR2 files are modified?

In order to reduce file size, all of the morph deltas are stored in this new PMD file (binary). You can change this behavior in the Preferences (to go back to the original way where they were still stored in the PZ3 etc.).

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

From the Top drop down select 'Edit'
Then 'General Preferences'
Select the 'Misc' tab
uncheck 'Use external binary morph targets'

Another handy use of the pmd files is that with a pose file they be 'injected' into a cr2. Good for people who want to create and distribure morphs. --Rebekah--

Sixus, how do you do that, inject a pmd into a cr2?

Wow! That easy!!! I had no idea, I'm sure that's not in the manual - you would think they would make more of a feature like that. Thaks for the link and thanks to nerd!

What happens to a previously saved PZ3 made by P6 if you uncheck the 'use PMD'? Will the file load?

Thanx Xena for the link that solved a few issues i was having trouble with.

Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.

That is a great tut that covers a lot. --Rebekah--

It seems that all morph dials are now disabled in some files I am working on. This is related to PZ3 crashes every once in a while when facial expressions are put on a character from the faces lbirary ... the PZ3, when saved, shrinks to 400 k

Thanks for the specifics Sixus! found it..

Be advised that the wonderfulness of the PMD file is the superfast load and render times. The cost, however, is that the PMD can't carry the load of sustained changes to a file that one uses in a series of scenes. It craps out and you lose all morphs within characters other than xyz. I have reverted back to P5. This is too buggy.
