First question....what's your budget? There is a rather large difference in price for the apps you have mentioned

I'd be cautious about buying software on Ebay, make sure that it is absolutley legit first. My advice would be too look at the forums and galleries of the various apps on Rosity, that way you should get an idea of what each is capable of.

Ignore the shooty dog thing.
Just a suggestion ... Visit the Rosity art galleries and see which artists' works turn you on. Try out the software that they used to create their image. Almost all software have Free Demo versions ... Try out a variety of them, and see which programs "fits" you. Visit a variety of Renderosity Forums and see which ones you feel comfortable in, which ones you feel give the best support, not only to your software, but also to their forum members. As mentioned above, making your first big 3D software purchase can be expensive, however, if you do your homework, you will soon be posting images to your Rosity gallery :] Dee-Marie
Softimage XSI sells a base edition at ~500 USD if you need a modeler and renderer that's both professional and up to scratch. I use 3DS max and I love the versatility of it - I use it for modeling, texture baking and rendering. If you're on a budget, you could even start out with just Daz studio and inker. Let me find that inker link - I know it's a freebie on the net somewhere... ~S

Hello everyone, I know my question is very large so let me add a few things here: In the 3D soft I'm looking for, I'd like to have a toon shader (cel-shaded rendering, anime style). Lots of available tutorials (free or not) on the web. Poser is one of my choice for the characters and the poses, but I need another more complete 3D soft to produce real 3D material, so between LIGHWAVE 3D Studio MAYA BRYCE What's do you think? Your opinions? Thanks for reading and anwsering.
