Sometimes in the comments on my works I get people saying that mt photo size should be larger. But conversely, Often I open an image and cannot fit the entire photo on the screen without scrolling. This really takes away from being able to view the photos how they are meant to be seen. Face it- not everbody out there has a 19" monitor, and being one who designs websites as well as doing photography, I size mine for the most common viewing resolution- 800x600 (that statistic is taken from my website(s) and the viewer statistics). Personally I have a 17" monitor set to 1024x768 and am able to view about 75% of whats on here without scrolling. I usually size mine at approx 620x480 taking into consideration all the frames & nav bars on the rosity site. Could there be a better size recommendation for photos in this gallery so those who arent using the 22" and above monitors might enjoy- or maybe the artists might take into consideration those with 15" monitors?

There is maybe no real answer, I put all of mine up at 700 on the longest side excluding frames that I add.

That should fit into the viewing area for the majority.
Then you have the issue if what browser people are using, people using AOL or MSN have a smaller viewing area because of all the other content they have on those browsers.

I am using a 19" monitor and some images on here are far to big for that.

I think the majority these days are 1024x768 according to my web stats anyway, that said some of my visitors use a little as 600x400.

i try to keep it around 800X600 min up to 1024 since learning this neat little trick Unstrung showed here in IE, i find viewing in the gallery a lot easier- left click hold, drag the image up to the header of the monitor & release & it automatically opens in a new window on a white screen! great trick! :]

Hmm statistics for my website show me a different picture: Screen resolutions 1. 1024 x 768 35.5 % 2. 1280 x 1024 35.5 % 3. >= 1600 x 1200 22.6 % 4. 800 x 600 3.2 % Unknown 3.2 % Total 100.0 % But having said that, using a max of 750 wide or 700 height should suffice for anyone. I post at slightly higher resolutions myself, but just a tad because I go for the 1024 screens. hmm I just realised my last upload doesn't fit on that :D

Wow, thank you Cindy. That is a trick that will probably come in handy. Had no idea you could do such a thing. I never make mine bigger than 1000 by the way #:O)

not sure if it's a preset of XP or what but where it takes you is to the copy in your temporary internet files lickity-split

I admit it, I am one of the people that bug Devious about his image size. Sometimes I know that if it were larger I'd seen even more great detail, so I just have to say something. I know this is a hotly debated topic and I guess it is hard to please everyone. If you have a large monitor set at a high resolution, then naturally you'd want the pictures larger so you can appreciate the greater detail. Smaller monitor users would be the opposite. For myself, I have a 23" dispaly at work and 19" at home. Even I get annoyed when images are too large to view in the browser window without scrolling. Granted, some images need the extra real estate - panoramas for instance. But I agree that for the most part, an image works the best when it can be viewed as a whole and not in parts. When we all have the same size monitors maybe that will no longer be an issue. I probably make some of mine a little too large, but I personally feel that most people visiting RO are running at least 1024x768. It would be nice to get some stats about that. Neat tip cyn. It is rigth click on the mac and then choose "open image in new window". :)
