Subject: What does "WOOT" mean?

ScottA ( ) posted Fri, 10 June 2005 at 12:03 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 9:52 PM

I've seen people start to post this "WOOT" word a lot and I don't know what it means. I remember when Arsenio Hall started the Whoo...Whoo...Whoo thing a long time ago. Is this what they are referring to? Is this one of those black sayings that white people screwwed up trying to immitate it? Or is it something else entirely? -ScottA

It's more or less "Oh Yeah!", like in :
"The new toys have arrived!" "WOOT! WOOT!"

I always thought it was a gamer saying, lol. "Woot! I kicked some orc ass!"

"The term w00t is a slang interjection used to express happiness or excitement, usually over the Internet. The expression is most popular on USENET posts, multiplayer computer games (especially first person shooters), IRC chats, and instant messages, though use on the World Wide Web in the form of weblogs or in forums is by no means uncommon." So basically they are carrying on in the tradition of Arsenio Hall fans. I think I can safely say that without risking another deletion.

So how do you pump your fist in the air repeatedly while typing "w00t"? :-)

I thought the Arsenio Hall thing was something more like "rrrroooo, rrrroooo, rrrroooo"? I thought that was why the nickname "The Dog Pound" came into being on that show?

I thought it was kind of a corruption of Homer Simpson's excited cry of, "Woohoo!" :-) bonni

Also see the link. It's pretty funny how much there is on this word.
