Hi Folks,

I am truly sorry but I am sick and tired of seeing the above after waiting 5-10 minutes just to read a response to a post.

Will someone please email me ...

geep@cableone.net

... when ( or if) this problem gets resolved.

In the meantime, I shall be looking for a Poser website with a more user friendly response time.

geep

Remember ... "With Poser, all things are possible, and poseable!"

cheers,

dr geep ... :o]

NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! Please Dr. Geep, don't leave. We people here have a co-dependent disorder, and we will jump off the bridge if you leave. It just would not be the same. I keep getting these errors too, and not just with Renderosity. I have to manually reset my cable modem about every hour, on the hour. Cablelynx blows bigtime. I wish I still had Comcast, at least their system works. -The Starkdog

Renderosity is slow, no doubt of it, but I've had trouble getting on elsewhere. It's like there's an Internet traffic jam out there (I've got cable too). I hope you don't stay away long, Dr. Geep. You're important to us.

If you move for real please IM me your forwarding address: where you will be "hanging out" (is it against TOS to say where you are going?). Peace..

dialyn ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2005 at 11:43 AM

It isn't against TOS unless he decides to hang out at a porn site. :/

Or at an erotica site. I know those aren't necessarily the same thing.

SnowSultan ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2005 at 12:12 PM

I'm not having any significant speed problems at all, and I visit Renderosity several times a day. Geep, are you in the US? Please reconsider before leaving; your tutorials are quite helpful for new users and they'll do the most good on a large site like this one where so many new users can find them. Thanks, SnowS

And here I am just finishing another building using Dr. Geep's methods...

Could be all sorts of things, but it would never have come into existence without Dr. Geep.

(BTW, I'm not seeing anything particularly slow from Renderosity, which may mean the problem is somewhere else.)

I have trouble all the time here too, pages take forever to load, and when I post a message, it hangs forever, and I end up closing the window! When I come back, the message I post is there, but I would never know till I came back and checked :( This is the only site that runs this slow. I'm on DSL and All the other 3d sites load quickly and posting doesn't cause the page to just hang there never knowing if your post worked or not.

I almost never have problems with this site. Occasionally, a forum is slow to open, but that is the exception to the rule. As for getting on Rosity, rarely is it slow. If it is slow, I just go out and come back, but that so rarely happens. I have cable through cox communication. I live in the US if that makes a difference.

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2005 at 1:12 PM

Add me to the list of those who have been having serious problems (with cable modem).

dlk30341 ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2005 at 1:16 PM

Add me as well...cable thru Comcast(US). FYI...over the last week there are already 2 threads going in the COmmunity area reagrding this annoying issue. I have NP in the MP or galleries, just in the forum area >:(.

The galleries are always a problem for me, especially when doing searches. But even switching from one page to the next takes something along the line of 2 to 3 minutes on a cable modem (Through Comcast as well).

3DNeo ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2005 at 1:21 PM

Problems with the forum and general site issues as well. I think they need to upgrade the servers and bandwidth more or else you will see this. Other sites haven't caused any slowness yet due to their bandwidth not being pushed to it's limits like here. Best of luck geep and please PM me too if you find a new home.

Oh...I don't even bother searching.....that's always been a no-no for me. I could go to the store/do a load of wash/smoke many cigarettes & consume quite a few drinks before a search finishes LOL

Tomsde ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2005 at 1:43 PM

I have a slow dial up connection and I have problems with downloads from Renderosity whenever I buy something--particularly large files. I'm not sure if it's my turtle speed connection or Renderosity or both. I'm not willing to give up yet, however.

SWAMP ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2005 at 2:07 PM

Add me to the "having problems with this site" list. I've had many timeouts and it can take over 5 min for a page to load. My problems are with the forums and galleries (forget about doing a search). The Market Place which is on the same server is fast as lighting....doesnt leave me wondering about priorities. SWAMP

momodot ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2005 at 2:39 PM

I am loading fast enough with my dial-up but images are very slow, but not slower than images from anywhere else. Could this be a cable issue? I understand they prioritize "packets" and connections in a way that dial-up and DSL don't. My main problem here is if the banners are too flashy... as in flash, but I can search and everything on my machine although FreeStuff pages take a minute or two and Gallery pages maybe 3-5 minutes, and store pages 5-6 minutes... but the forum pages haven't been a problem. I didn't say more re. the value of the DR. cause he already knows I appreciate and respect him.

aeilkema ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2005 at 2:44 PM

It's not a cable issue, since less then 2 weeks ago everything went pretty quickly. But the last week it getting slower and slower around here. CU around geep!

I'm getting around the net, no problem. It sounds like your internet hub is busy. Perhaps you should call your internet provider.

Meanwhile, you can check the internet traffic report to see if there's trouble in your part of the world. The US is usually in good shape, but lately Comcast has been having troubles.

Site speed at Renderosity has gone back and forth for me over the years.

It even comes and goes on the same day.

But, Doc......I wouldn't cash in my chips too quickly. You are greatly respected around here.

Sure, there are other sites. Take your pick.

But Renderosity is the grandaddy of 'em all. Only PFO could lay claim to being almost as venerable -- and PFO is kaput.

Of course, when one talks of anything being "venerable" in terms of Poser.......well, that's relatively speaking.

I've had many other online freinds with the same issues,, the site is jusy too damned slow for them to want to use. I'm finding more and more, I'm hanging at RNDA and Daz/Poser Pros, partially because of how fast thier websites respond. I try to check here daily, and I usually browse and read other websites while I browse here, because I get tired of waiting for the next page update.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

DSL in the UK here and this site is usually slower than any other. This week has been glacial. Waiting for a page to open is like watching hair grow but not as exciting.

Just to chime in... Roadrunner here and I've not had trouble until just the last 2 weeks or so with Renderosity. For some reason it's just crawling for me, which is very unusual. Geep ya can't leave...this place wouldn't be the same without ya!

nickedshield ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2005 at 4:58 PM

From what I've observed part of the slowness of this site is almost everything ties into the market place. I don't know if other browsers can see the status that I watch using Netscape 7.01 or not but I constantly see ' sending request to blah blah marketplace' Then after the page loads I get a document done status. This page took 44.875 seconds to finish. The free area is worse, it sends requests to all off site pages and they have to respond before the free stuff page finishes. If it was possible to set the forum up on it's own server that could show an improvement in speed.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2005 at 6:44 PM

The pages on this site are very slow to load lately... I usually have free cell or texttwist going, or a render on another machine to watch. Since it suddenly got much slower, I don't think it is related to the traffic buildup on this site but a problem with a hub or backbone or server somewhere else... like in Tennessee. There are slowdowns on other sites, too. DAZ was timing out last night and PoserPros still hasn't managed to get their cookie machine to keep folks logged in. I've even had problems with RDNA and opening webmail messages. 🤷 Hmm... I suggest a purring lap-cat. While waiting for the page to load, you can be giving her the attention she needs, and she can give you the relaxation and contentment only a happy cat can offer a spoiled owner. Carolly

Y'know, and I've mentioned this before I think, I'm surprised that the darned computers work in the first place! I've got a student who claimed that they could build me a "kick-ass mega-computer system" out of any parts I could provide. I brought him a five pound bag of high grade silica sand and said "git'er done, boy!" He didn't understand until I explained that the silica, and a can of crude oil, whas what the entire computer was based on...sand and plastic...and that it was a miracle that they worked at all...kinda like the human brain... I personally, sitting on a 26.6 dialup connection right now, think that the time-outs are just part of life online. Dr. G, you who give us all the desperately needed guidance and guffaws, please...a little patience for your patients.... Your absence would darken an already shadowed doorstep further than it needs to be. Stick around...life is just getting interesting!

lmckenzie ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2005 at 10:19 PM

AS they say, 'every dog has his day.' I've seen none of this reported slowdown on my dialup connection--it's the same not unreasonable speed as ever. Posts may or may not go through the first time but that's always been an issue here for me. If a 56K connection is what 30 times faster than cable then I tend to suspect it has something to do with the arcane art of routing tables, DHCP, etc. and may not even be something 'Rosity can control i.e. it may be "upstream" from their servers. Has someone actually contacted the PTB and asked them to check? Where's the Penguin, he knows all about this stuff I believe.

Try going to a command prompt [Windows] and typing: tracert renderosity.com [Press ENTER] Look at the results of the trace and you may be able to see where it's hanging up. If nothing else, it's always interesting to see the convoluted route the internet takes :-)
