Subject: Poser 6 and graphics card?

Nate ( ) posted Sun, 19 June 2005 at 9:06 PM · edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 7:40 AM

The search dingus on Renderosity does nothing when I click it so if this is a repetition, please bear with it or go to the next message. I downloaded the P6 demo. I have opened it about 6 times, managed to do one straight render of (James? - whatever that is that appears on the screen when it opened). That looked ok. Anytime I try to turn a parameter dial, touch the figure on screen or do anything like that several things happen... + the figure grows all sort of extended blurred artifacts + my cursor disappears (unless I run it over the windows bar at bottom - then it's there) + I have to cntrl-alt-delete to shut it down... no cursor, alt F4 does nothing and tab keys do nothing. My system and card run Poser 5, Photoshop 7, I do some major size illustrations with Photoshop and Painter, I run Carrara, Bryce, Rhino and a bunch of other major biggies from Macromedia and a lot of mainstream packages with no problem. Granted, my card is a bit old, but this is rediculous (if it is even the card... I don't think so). Card = ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500 128 meg DDR SGRAM/SDRAM PCI bus 1 Driver version 5.13.1.6037 2/8/2002 Release version 7.67-020208x-2916c-ATI 1 gig ram Windows 2000 pro (R)4 CPU - 2.40 Ghz processor 9000 Mb paging file The ATI site does not show any more recent drivers for this, and I haven't seen one elsewhere. I'm not inclined to toss my system/card just to use Poser 6. Any thoughts on this one? Thanks much! Nate

I hate to say it, but I have a deep suspicion your All-In-Wonder 8500 card is a big part of the problem. Have you tried switching to SreeD display instead of OGL, just to see if it helps?

Tools :  3dsmax 2015, Daz Studio 4.6, PoserPro 2012, Blender v2.74

System: Pentium QuadCore i7, under Win 8, GeForce GTX 780 / 2GB GPU.

That worked! I read about SreeD in the readme, but it implied that P6 would detect and use the correct reneder setup for the system. Guess I'll be upgrading the graphics card when I can. Had to read the pdf manual to find where to set this option, then do it as soon as the program opened, otherwise no cursor and no control. Folks like you make Renderosity the best..

"I read about SreeD in the readme, but it implied that P6 would detect and use the correct reneder setup for the system." It does imply that indeed, but don't trust it though. My gfx card even though much better then yours still isn't to good for OpenGL, even though Poser 6 choosed that as default. I would really recommend switching SreeD Software instead, ti will even work well on older gfx cards.

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....
