NEWTON, Mass. - February 12, 2001 - LifeFX, Inc. (NASDAQ: LEFX), the leading developer of Stand-In virtual people for the Internet, and Eastman Kodak Company today announced an agreement to work together to commercialize and distribute LifeFXs Stand-In Technology-life-like, three-dimensional digital representations of people that can move, talk and express emotion. Under the terms of the agreement, Kodak will have rights to process two-dimensional pictures into personal LifeFX Stand-In virtual people. Upon commercialization, LifeFX will receive royalty fees from Kodak for the conversion of each consumer photograph into the personal, life-like Stand-In virtual person that will be created. Kodak will also provide LifeFX with in-kind marketing and distribution support including Powered By LifeFX branding. Kodak plans to make the LifeFX Stand-In Technology available through its products and services, such as Kodak Picture CD, kodak.com and other Kodak Web properties, and will support the distribution of the LifeFX player through its consumer channels.

I've seen the product this company comes out with - the word "amazing" doesn't cover it. http://www.lifefx.com/

Grumbles because I can't see it

It is interesting to me that a number of people expressed reservations about this new technology. Seeing exciting SFX in movies is great but just think of the potential of using beautiful and charming people to gain easy entry into your personal world. Why, they could even get elected to the presidency, and then morph into total lying weasels- but that's much too fictional... (hehe) What's the movie where the beautiful babes suddenly morph into vicious monsters and tear your head off...???

{What's the movie where the beautiful babes suddenly morph into vicious monsters and tear your head off...??? } I've known of at least three, but can't remember the titles of any offhand!

Though I suppose the best title for a movie like that would be "Marriage" :-)

One movie is, I believe, "Species". It also had a sequel.

So, did anyone try the "FaceMail" demo from their site? (It thumbed its nose at my WhimpyPooter and would not even let me download.) http://www.lifefx.com Hopefully it goes without saying that, if this should catch on, it would have interesting implications for our little hobby.

It didn't like my WIN95 box either.

Here's the Quicktime Demos. The top one shown at Siggraph is pretty freaky, to say the least. Getting a talking email like this would be frightening. However, this is technology that people here using Poser, MAX or Lightwave could probably pull-off... I didn't sign up for their email try-out because it sounds like one of those deals where you volunteer to be virtually probed and raped by their marketing people. I'll just stand by and watch on this one...

I tried it, and it's not bad, but the voice isn't a patch on the stuff the Mac has had for years. Nice idea, flawed implementation. later jb

LifeFX is very nice, but just to let you know, we're not sitting on our hands regarding custom sculpted virtual talking heads. Steve Cooper Curious Labs
