At $60.00 Wardrobe Wizard has priced me out. Would you buy it at $60.00? It is allot of money.

Dave-So ( ) posted Mon, 20 June 2005 at 7:38 PM

depends on how much clothing you buy for each character you have.... figure if you have m3, and a shirt...plus you own m2, m1, all the Vs and other stuff..you can convert the m3 shirt to fit the rest of the gang....

"Would you buy it at $60.00? It is a lot of money." Short answer? YES! Even if you have no real budget to buy clothes for your Poser figures. Just for the fact it can be used to convert TONS and TONS (er, I mean megabytes and megabytes of course) of older freebies to fit newer figures, and it's paid for itself many times over by the time you just work thru the backlog. Also, since you can convert at need, you can actually save HD space by just having one master set of original clothes and convert for whatever figure you're using in a project. After P3d0 Pro, CorrectReference Pro, and Poser File organizer (all of which make Poser library organization a practical possibility), I'd rank WW the #4 must-have Poser utility so far Also, PhilC & Kamilche's support is top-notch!

ynsaen ( ) posted Mon, 20 June 2005 at 8:14 PM

Would you buy it at $60.00? yep. Worth the money, it is. Hell, better spent than on the morphs for some figures!

xoconostle ( ) posted Mon, 20 June 2005 at 8:22 PM

As others have indicated, "worth" is defined by your anticipated general budget for future purchases of clothing props for meshes. This is a "pays for itself" app for many of us. Savings aside, it also makes converting clothing for under-supported character meshes more of a possibility, which in and of itself adds value. In my opinion it was worth every penny. I expect it to save me more than its cost in the coming year, if not sooner. Also, as a happy Apollo Max owner, having Wardrobe Wizard on hand means I won't have to wait for A-Max specific clothing to start using the mesh immediately. Think about it, "do the math." Set aside a bit of money each week until you can afford it, if you think it will be worth it to you in the long run.

estherau ( ) posted Mon, 20 June 2005 at 8:24 PM

Hi, well one of the things that stopped me using freebie clothes int he past is they tended not to have morphs in them for fitting morphed characters. Even the poser world clothes lacked some morphs. With wardrobe wizard it's very easy to make an item of clothing for V3 fit a morphed V3. I would say WW is an essential poser item. I have needed something like it for a very long time. Love esther

The thing is I think a fair price is $39.00 or so at $60 It hard to justify for me. I know Phil has put a lot of work on it and gave us a chance to buy it at a sale price.

stonemason ( ) posted Mon, 20 June 2005 at 8:48 PM

for what your getting I'd say 60$ is a bargain..if I used more figures I'd snap it up in an instant. then again I think everything sold in Poserland is a bargain : Cheers Stefan

momodot ( ) posted Mon, 20 June 2005 at 9:03 PM

I am notoriously cash challenged but yes I think it is worth it. It nearly worth having just for the opportunity to watch it do its magic trick. But more seriously, it works great and is super valuable in optimizing your clothing collection. I think this is a great product and Phil is doing us a service making it available even at $60. How many outfits can you get for $60 versus how many outfits you can get by adapting your current content? Even if you have to save up for it as I did, I think it is a great investment. And Phil is a nice and helpful fellow with a long standing contribution to the community for that matter.

I agree with Dave-So....but, then again, I have a decent amount of spending money, so I can afford a big purchase each couple of months. However, considering the cost of the app, and the cost of reclothing Apollo Max, I think the application will earn it's own cost back. Also, as someone said, there are some figures that NEVER get good support. If WW has them in it's knowledgebase, they can wear clothes....what a concept. It's a bit costly, but that's life. If you can't afford it now- no biggie. Wait until you have a chance to spend extra money. There is no reason you have to get it today when you could better afford it in 6 months. eric

Mamba,

So is that the concept of WW?
To be a Morph manager or UTC for clothing?

Will it work Cross character as suggested? Has anyone tried loading up Dina, and seeing if Steph clothes are a one click transfer.

Would love to see something like this, I have about 84 Gig, of clothes for Vickie 2, but do not use her anymore, would be nice to be able to transfer over some of the outfits.

Marque ( ) posted Mon, 20 June 2005 at 10:59 PM

Going to try to find Dina now and see what happens. So far it's been pretty cool. Marque

Crescent ( ) posted Mon, 20 June 2005 at 11:08 PM

There's a list over at philc.net that shows which figures are programmed into the WW right now. It isn't really a one-click, but it has some nice utilities to get a good fit. It's not difficult to use, IMO, though it has a few drawbacks - notably, no native way to get morphs in the final results (it doesn't transfer over any morphs so if you have a skirt with morphs to make it sit, etc., you have to do extra work.) This isn't to downplay the program, just to let buyers go in fully understanding the program - its weaknesses as well as strengths. It doesn't do body handles, either, though I don't know of a conversion program that does. Is the program worth it? It depends on how many models you have, how much clothing, and how good your skills are with magnets/postwork (plus how much time/patience you have doing it yourself.) If you only have one or two models, don't use morphs much, and haven't bought a lot of clothing, it's probably not worth it to you. If you have a large number of characters (or use a lot of the body morphs on a few meshes) and a good-sized wardrboe, it's should be of value to you. Also, if you do serial work, such as animations or comic books, then it might be worth it to you as you'll need to reuse the clothing over and over again, so one-off "postwork specials" wouldn't cut it. Hope this helps, Cres

GabrielK ( ) posted Mon, 20 June 2005 at 11:27 PM

Wardrobe Wizard I have to say, is pretty damn cool. The only thing that would make it better is if it kept the morphs that were originally part of the clothing (without having to employ any outside trickery). Definitely worth $60, even more so the $40 I paid for it.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Mon, 20 June 2005 at 11:32 PM

I think it's worth the USD 60. Trouble is, as a download it's more than awkwardly huge, and "Burn to CD" has other problems for those of us in Europe. Not time; it can trigger those nasty things called "taxes". And I don't have broadband yet. So I did my figuring, and decided to wait a while.

Think of it this way, you can either get Wardrobe Wizard which will give your figures countless options, especially if you mix and match from various outfits or you can buy 2 Uzilite clothing sets :) I'm not knocking Uzilite, I have most of his M3 stuff and love it but can you imagine clothing all your figures like that? Also, if you use the younger mil figures I'd say WW is necessary since even if you were so inclined to spend all that money on clothes there aren't many things available for them anyway.

dante ( ) posted Tue, 21 June 2005 at 12:13 AM

Antonia Tiger, dont you have a cyber cafe with a fast conection and a cd burner near where you live? Hell even here in backward brazil when I could not afford broad band I used to download all large poser files from cyber cafes... If not its a shame, as for the software on the short run itll pay itself...it rocks.

TamiL ( ) posted Tue, 21 June 2005 at 12:41 AM

This program is worth every cent! It will pay for itself almost right away and you can't beat the customer service that PhilC and Kamilche offer!

momodot ( ) posted Tue, 21 June 2005 at 12:41 AM

I know people who have done broadband downloads at cybercafes. Another option is to get someone in the USA to accept the delivery of the burned CD and forward it to you as private mail. I do not object to paying my taxes though I think sales taxes support the rich at the expense of the poor as poor people spend a higher percentage of their income on taxible purchases than the rich, it is the huge "brokerage" and "import fees" I am charged for items shipped from the US as other than "Demo CD - No Commercial value". I feel it is fair to ship this way since the CD is backup for a possibly currupt download and it is the download which is being purchased in most cases... even if the CD is shipped with the value of $5 for the burn cost I would still pay upward of twenty dollars in fees and levies for it. I have never understood sales tax anyway, I make purchase only with income that has already been taxed! I was myself able to get a good download of Wordrobe Wizard despite my aweful dial-up with a throughput of 1kbs-3kbs! Finally, it should be rembered that Wardrobe Wizard can be used to fit clothes to a morphed figure. This is a great value in itself for people who play with a variety of body types. So far I have been able to do all my fitting adjustments within the plug in with the need for less hiding of poke through body parts then usual... magnets can help with poke through but I have not been need to do that so far. There is also a No Poke through script in Freestuff that shrinks body parts a bit to mittigate poke-through.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 21 June 2005 at 2:28 AM

I think it's worth it. It's as close to a point-and-click solution as you can reasonably get in Poserland. VERY easy to use. And yes, as it's been mentioned, it's also a replacement for The Tailor, becaues it can be used to make clothes fit morphed characters just as well as another character! The sheer value of finally having clothes available for the Poser males is SO worth it. Never mind if the t-shirt is from David and the pants are from Dork. They'll both fit James. And Maximus. And the abillity to instantly clothe a character like Maximus is absolutely worth it. Imagine having to buy all Mike's clothes over again to clothe AM? That would cost a LOT more than $60. Of course I am happy that I DID have enough money for it while it was on sale... Still scraping money together for Maximus now because I spent them on WW G At least the Maximus sale goes into next month :o) Next to PBooost, this is the best money I've ever spent on Poser.

On taxes and stuff... A CD might slip through, and I know one company which, without me asking, grossly underdeclared the value. But here in the UK there's a few percent import duty and then VAT at 17.5%. And then the fees the Post Office would charge for collecting.

Tiny ( ) posted Tue, 21 June 2005 at 4:13 AM

Yes I would. It is saving me $$$ in clothes items and lots of hours of valuable time.

Acadia ( ) posted Tue, 21 June 2005 at 6:48 AM

It's worth more. Think about it.... The program supports a number of different figures, with more being added all of the time. I'm sure that as a poser user your runtimes are bursting with items, such as hair, clothing and props that fit one character, but not another. And that you have some figures that have way more clothing than another figure. With WW, provided the figures are supported in the program, you can convert one figure's clothing to fit another figure with super great ease. Just the click of a few buttons and the script does all the rest. I've tried "The Tailor" and while it was ok, it was cumbersome because you had to go through a whole process for each item you wanted to "adjust", and then which morphs to add was anyone's guess. With WW, all the guess work is taken out. Dress the figure in the entire outfit and then go and do the analysis on each item it's wearing. No need to have to pick and choose body morphs. In addition to that, the product support is fantastic. A one time purchase of WW gives you unlimited outfits for your figures (if they are supported by WW), because all your figures can now share one wardrobe. Not only that, but there is no need to save each piece of converted clothing to the library folder because WW saves a data file with the analysis, which is very much smaller than the Poser files, so you save on hard drive space too. Once you've analyzed the clothing, you don't have to do it again because of that teensy .dat file that is saved. The next time you want to fit that item of clothing to another figure, even if it's the same figure with morphs added to it, all you have to do is put the clothing on the figure you want it to fit, and press one button in order to convert it to fit that figure. Not having to analyze each time, means that if you have the clothing item, you can use other people's analysis files and just own the clothing and not have to own the original figure. The only time you have to own the original figure is if you want to analyze the clothing yourself, then you need the figure and the clothing to do that. But to fit analyzed clothing to a figure, you only need to own the clothing, the new figure you want it to fit to, and have the required .dat file. So if you have a bunch of P4 women clothing, but no P4 woman, if someone has analyzed those items of clothing that you have, just copy their .dat file to the WW, put the clothing on V3 or whatever figure you want, and click "convert to" and it will fit that clothing to the new figure. It seems like a lot of money, but for all that it does, and the amount of money it will ultimately save you, it's well worth the purchase. My library is bursting over with clothing for V3 and V1/V2, but now thanks to WW I can fit all of those clothing items to SP3, Millennium Girls, V3 or even M3 and D3 if I want to. Poser files are NOT cheap and it all adds up rather quickly. Unless you are shopping at DAZ and getting the $1.99 platinum club price (don't forget to factor in the cost of the membership), most clothing costs $5.00 or more, and some very much more like up to $20 or more depending on where you shop. WW allows you so much more versatility with the clothing that you do have. It's late, and I haven't slept yet, so I hope all that made sense.

$25 is the most I have spent on outfits. I look at $10-$20. Spending $60 is for me nearly $100.00 (Converted to Canadian), with a money order ($15 for Money order). Adds up very fast.

Acadia ( ) posted Tue, 21 June 2005 at 8:11 AM

I can relate. I live in Canada too. But you aren't looking at the big picture of WW. It's an investment that will ultimately SAVE you money. Look at it this way. Take tha $100 CAD, or $115 CAD with money order and go spend it on clothing for whichever figure or figures that you want. What do you have? Under 10 outfits or hair or props probably. Now calculate the number of clothing, props, hair, and shoes that you already have for various characters, then multiply that by the number of figures you have in your Poser runtime(s). That's what you get with WW. If you have 100 outfits for various figures (SP3, V3, P4 female, Judy, Don, M3, D3, Lina, Millennium Girls, Appollo Maximus, The Girl, Koshini 1 and 2, V1/2 etc)... that equals 100 x 15 figures based on the few figures that I listed there. That's 1500 outfits in total if you convert them to fit each other. That's not a shabby deal for $115 CAD including money order :) I challenge you to go out into the land of poser sites and BUY 1500 outfits with $115.00 CAD. Even at $1.99 at DAZ, you wouldn't get near that amount for $115.00 CAD.

I think it's definatley worth $60 considering how brilliantly it works and the amount of online support Phil has been giving it. I don't think the poor guy has slept since it was released...He responds to every question and if something doesn't work he fixes it. I predict it will become the biggest thing Poser has ever seen. Worth every single penny.

I think actually in the long run, clothes sales will do better since now we won't be restricted according to what figure the clothing is made for but whether we want it for one of the many other figures WW supports! Also, new figures won't have to stay without clothes or wait for support that never comes (see DAZ MilBoys) so, again, I won't think about that when buying a new figure but whether it is supported by WW. This is easily the biggest breakthrough in Poser since the introduction of conforming clothes when we did away with painting everything on as a second skin :)

True. If you've seen an analysis file that someone has done for a clothing item you like, all you need is the clothing. So it does have the potential to increase clothing sales because you no longer need the original figure if you can get your hands on the anlysis file.

At 60.00 it is out of my current "To broke to afford 3 meals a day" status. However, I have the page bookmarked so that when there is that little bit of extra, I can pick it up. Looks like it might actually resolve the issue of No clothes for Dina, which I would be very happy about. Oh and I rechecked.... it is actually 96Gig of clothing for Vicky II, the cost of re-purchase (if available) is well over the cost of the wizard. It is most definately on the "to get" list.

I really like just the P5 clothes content and I am happy I can use them now on Millenium characters... also all that cool Japanese stuff for the Millenium Girls. I would set aside the money each month that I might spend otherwise and get it when that topped off. Phil has been super responsive and friendly always when I have had cause to contact him, including recently on my WW purchase and whether or not to burn, question about shoes, etc.... he must be so swamped. He deserves EVERY dollar he gets in my opinion. I can not vouch but I do have a truly terrible dial up and I managed. I find with downloads the server it is comming from is a huge issue... I can get really big files from some outfits and can't get small ones reliably from others.

I wonder if we will get to the point that vendors will include the analysis .dat file with their hair and clothing items so that buyers who do not own the figure for which the item is made will be able to readily convert it to figures they do own?

If it doesn't increase the cost of the items then I'm all for that. But I would prefer that they didn't if they also increase intend to increase the price for including it. My income is stretched to the max and I have to think long and hard about anything I do purchase already.

I was P4 on Mac OS9. When I heard about WW, I scrambled quickly to upgrade to PP. That upgrade cost me $94. I helped beta test and bought the program 2 days after it came out. So I've spent a total of $134. Was it worth it? Hell yeah! ;D Wardrobe Wizard kicks booty! Think of it this way: if the average clothing or hair item I buy is $10, then all I need to do is convert 14 hair or 14 clothing items and WW's paid for itself. I've already done that, so everything from here on out is improving my original invest in clothing, Poser, hair and WW. So now I can afford to buy things I would have past over in the past, or try new figures, and I can also consider other clothing items which were originally made for a different figure. In the long run, if you use alot of Poser, WW give you more bang for your buck. If you buy only one Poser thing in 2005, I think WW is a good choice. Just my 2 cents. excellent product. Top notch support. Even works on old Macs! ;D bB
