There are too many settings to choose from in the optikVerve range. Could someone point me in the right direction as to resources of how each style came about, prehalps in what movies or what year did each style come about? It would help me greatly, thanks.

but many, if not all of the these effects can be produced with Photoshop, step by step, to produce one effect... so if it were me I'd start with googling the history of PS or maybe you can find the info on the optikV site itself or write them :]

Got me tooo...I kind of thought the filters selection did a bit of self explanitory...papparazzi...still life...rosy...Hollywood...all seem like that explains it to me.

i suppose so... if you want to go waaay back... you'd look for special effects that can be done in the darkroom or movie effects

Yes I agree with Cyn filters came about as a result of the darkroom wizards.. And more so on the advent of the SLR Camera in particular which changed the face of our hobby for your average enthusiast.. I have had photoshop since version 4 and this has become the new darkroom, however there is a lot of merit in on camera filters.. But nothing to compare what can be done in such powerful software packages

there's the natural ones... pantyhose stretched over the lens, Vaseline on a filter lens... colored gel filters... your research is cut out for you... Google can be your best friend :]

pondering cindys vaseline on a filter lens.. rolls eyes..:O.. l dont know the history of colour filters, but learnt a couple of weeks ago of the victorians viewing landscapes through colour filtered glass and artists using then to paint landscapes to represent different seasons and time of day etc.. blue for mid night .. etc etc.. coloured lighting gels are fun to work with in studio lighting. and can give wonderful effects ,but history in p'graphy have no idea.. wonder if something to do with the victorian era. thats just a guess...as l child l used quality street sweet wrappers hahah specially the purple containing the toffee coated brazil nut.. blush. :)..)))))))

lol i am laughin at the pantiehose idea.. have to try it sometime.. of corse my filtering is always done in PSP 7 and 9 .. psps 9 is fun .. roll the dice and see what happens at a random stab in the dark!!... try it for fun sometime!! LOL

okay probably used a lazy answer... l know red filters were used in the old black and white movies ,scenes were shot over various times of day and days.. the red filter gave the consistent blend showing no change of time in light and shadowing..so that when the whole scene was place together the quality of black and white film remained the same.. the history o f filters blending toning and colouring is way over my head.. very scentific hahaha, thank god for modern technology.. aslo a shortage of good quality dark rooms and chemicals back in the early days meant it made sense to add the filters first again . just brief.. answer here.. physics and chemistry and all the jazz is all way over my head..

A poor mans filter trick that has been used for many many years was to breathe on the lens which would cause it to fog over and then shoot. Shooting as many shots as you could as it faded away. I still do it from time to time.
