Subject: New monitor, awful colors

Hi, I had to get a new monitor yesterday as my big tube just died. :( I got a 19' LCD, the same one I have at work. The problem I am having is that when I load my older pictures, they are super saturated. Nothing I adjust with the monitor itself seems to correct this. I am afraid that I will ruin my photos by adjusting them based on the way it looks now on the monitor. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can adjust the monitor via Adobe and/or the video card panel (nvidia 6600)? I don't understand why this monitor looks so different from my work version, since the hardware, both monitor and graphic and computer, are identical, and the stuff at my office looks perfectly calibrated to my actual prints. Not an expert - there are others who maybe able to help.
I assume you have calibrated the monitor using Abode Gamma from the control panel. You will have to do that otherwise Abode Gamma will load on start up and set parameters for the old monitor.

If you suspect this maybe the cause I would:
go to 'start' on the windows task bar
go to 'All Programs'
go to 'Startup'

If Abode Gamma is in there delete it. (This will only remove it from Startup)

Then reboot pc - On start up Windows will set everything to windows default/Manufacturers settings see what it looks like then.

If you then want to recalibrate with Abode Gamma go to Control Panel click on Abode Gamma and follow the wizard for calibrating the monitor (Remember to do colour gamma by unchecking one channel box). Doing this will put Abode Gamma back in the start up menu and your pc will now start with those settings.

Sounds very informative Onslow.You could always try a switch too and bring monitor home from work and see if it is a defective monitor you got.

I bet it is the Adobe thing. I totally forgot about the ooriginal profile. I bet that will do the trick. The computer at work never had a different monitor, but the home machine did, I bet that's the reason they look so different. Thanks for that. I'll be adjusting it as soon as I get home. I'll let you know if that's the reason. JDexter

Onslow took the words right outa my mouth. DId the exact same thing with my wifes computer yesterday. The old CRT died, now she has a nice new Samsung 19"LCD. :)

Is it not the same going to Run... msconfig...Start Up then removing Adobe Gamma from start up . Guess I will find out because going to Start All Programs and deleting adobe gamma there just gets rid of icon not the program from start up

It has to be the new monitor. I can subdue ther colors, but only by turning the seperate gamma colors down to the lowest settings, and it still is not good. On Monday, i will swap it with the one in the office to see for sure before I send it back. In the meantime, I'm on a smaller, tube monitor and it is just perfect (though smaller than my old eyes like ;) ) JDexter
