Hi all, I'm getting the attached bug when exporting a render as an image. Using Poser v 6.0.1.75, under Win XP Pro SP1. Please help, somebody. thanks, Andrew

P.S. I should also add that I can export as a JPG, provided that I don't click on the "Save as type" drop-down. It seems that all hell breaks loose once I click that drop-down though. I get the error message, and when I cancel out of it, I find that all of the main menu options have become disabled. Furthermore, even the "x" in the top right-hand corner of the Poser window is disabled so I have to crash it via the Task Manager. (Can someone remind me how to report a Poser bug to e-Frontier ?)

Not much help, but just tried it and it works okay here (same version of Poser and XP pro). The only difference is, I don't get that compression box in the dialog - mine just says 'uncompressed' or 'compressed'. Possibly something wrong in your installation - try a reinstall?

The "Max Quality" setting tells me Poser is trying to save as a jpeg, yet you selected Photoshop format (psd). That's why it's saying the extension is wrong.

spedler, thanks for replying. What were you saving it as ? ... i.e. which image format ? .... did you invoke it using Export/Image from the File menu ?

mathman ( ) posted Sun, 26 June 2005 at 8:31 AM

Jackson, the Poser export defaults to jpeg, but I tried to export it as PSD by selecting the type in the drop-down. This is standard windows behavior to do this. Methinks the compression box should have disappeared at this point.

This is a combination of a Poser buglet and a Windows stupidity.
Unfortunately, I have a german Windows so I don't know the exact names they use in english, but try this:
Open Explorer -> Extras -> Folder Options -> View -> don't show known extensions. Uncheck this for all folders of your system (this requires just one or two mouseclicks, depending on your other settings). Poser will then show you the filenamen with extensions.
Your filenames probably is "Untitled.jpg". Make it "Untitled", then you can save it in any format you want.
(And leave the display of the extensions on, since they are crucial for Windows and every user should know as much as possible about what his OS is doing.)

Thanks, kyraia, but this is not the solution. I already display known extensions in Windows Explorer.

"Methinks the compression box should have disappeared at this point." Not disappeared but the compression option should have changed to either "Compressed" or "Uncompressed." Those are the only two available for the Photoshop format. Since yours did not change I can only guess that Poser still wanted to save it as a jpeg. I think that's happened to me before but can't remember why. I do remember Poser didn't lock up on me though; I just closed the warning and changed the settings and it worked.

I should have also mentioned that the Export sub-menu is right up sh*t creek, as per the attached image.

Yes, I used export image from the file menu, and chose the .psd format from the dropdown. The compression box then changed to compressed or uncompressed, I chose compressed, and it saved without problems.

Could it also be that you are on Windows xp SP1? and not SP2? i know i had issues with some software when SP2 came out so i had to get patches, and now im unsure if current software works as well in SP1 thanx to all these updates.... Upgrade to SP2 and see if that helps things.

Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.

Don't use the File>Export Menu.

Get out of the Preview Tab and go to the Render Tab - then click the drop down arrow on the upper right corner of the document window and choose Export Image.

Howarth, The same thing happens when I do as you suggest.

I've bitten the bullet and decided to blow it away and re-install. In the process, I have just had a thought (havent re-installed it yet, just doing some backing up). I wonder if it has anything to do with an XML file being corrupted ? I know that Poser is heavily reliant on XML files.

All, Problem solved by completely uninstalling and then re-installing. Thanks to all who have helped. regards, Andrew
