Subject: Saving poses and creating Map Pose files for them

Wanting to try something new, to me anyway! I'd like to create a Poses package for Renda. I know how to create the actual pose but what steps do I take after its been completed to save it and create the map pose to apply it? Thanks for any help! Jan (gr8g8s)

Attached Link: Mat Pose Edit

The information pertaining to materials for a character is contained in 'material' blocks near the end of the cr2. They consist of a header line starting with the word 'material' followed by the name of the material, under the header line the data for that block is enclosed within opening '{' and closing '}' braces, each material has it's own block of data. A MAT pose file is just these material blocks (or part there of) pasted into an appropriate template. Here is the template:
{<br></br><br></br>version<br></br>       {<br></br>   number <br></br>     }<br></br><br></br>figure <br></br>    {<br></br>//-Material blocks go here-<br></br>    }<br></br>}

And here is an example of a partial MAT pose to change the skin material by setting its colour and applying a texture map to it.

{<br></br><br></br>version<br></br>   {<br></br>   number <br></br>     }<br></br><br></br>figure <br></br>    {<br></br>   material skin<br></br>               {<br></br>           KdColor 0.956863 0.823529 0.815686 1 <br></br>               textureMap ":Ground Default Texture.tif"<br></br>            }<br></br>   }<br></br>}

Whilst it is not hard to create MAT poses by copying the material blocks from a cr2 file using a text editor, there is an excellent free utility 'MAT Pose Edit' that will do much of the work for you.

Thanks! I do have Mat Pose Edit and use it for the clothing textures I've done. I guess my question really is, how is saving a pose, as in positioning the body a certain way, and then creating the mat pose for it different from doing mat poses for textures. Is the pose saved as a CR2 file and then you load that character file into Mat Pose Edit to create the Mat Pose for it?

"Is the pose saved as a CR2 file and then you load that character file into Mat Pose Edit to create the Mat Pose for it?"

Yes that's right. When loading the cr2 you will be prompted 'Do you want to load morph and pose data also?', answer 'Yes'. I don't have time for a full explination, but here are the basic steps to create a normal pose with MAT data using MPE version 3. First set the save options in the 'Save Options' tab. In the 'Materials' tab make any chages as desired. In the 'Morph and Pose channels' tab, delete the 'BODY actor, delete any other actors that you don't want to affect from the 'Actors' window, e.g. if you only want to pose the legs delete everything except the legs. Next use the 'Select All' button in the 'Actors' window, then in the 'Delete channels from selected actors' section, place a tick in every box excrpt 'Rotate', 'Translate' (and if you want to include morph channels 'Morph'), then click the 'Delete' button. From the 'File' menu select 'Save As' and chose a location and name for your pose file.

You can link to the MPE web page where you can view some tutorials from the MPE 'Help' menu.

For saving poses i create all i do is make a folder in my poses library make sure the body is selected after creating the pose i want, and click the add button and name it then i go back and restart poser and using a default pose to start i click on the checkmark and it poses..i've never had to use mat pose edit to do a pose. o.o thats just how i do it. :)

Thanks so much. That works if its just me using the pose. Mat Pose Edit would be needed if I intend to make a poses product to sell, which is what I'm planning on. Jan

Mariana_ Poser is fine for creating normal pose files. A normal pose file contains data for rotation, translation, and optionaly morph paramiters. If you need to create a MAT pose, a scaling pose, a pose to to affect only some not all channels in an actor, a pose to affect FBM channels, or any sort of pose for the BODY actor, then you need MAT Pose EDIT or similar.
