There are several applications that natively import Poser scenes (static - you can't continue working on the pose, morphs, etc. in the app) so that you can render. e-On's Vue line has been very good at Poser scene support. Shade (part of e-Frontier, who now owns Poser) is another. Bryce with the help of DAZ|Studio. There are plugins (both free and costly) that allow import of Poser scenes into various applications (LightWave3D, 3DSMax, Cinema 4D mainly). The free ones are mainly at e-Frontier's site (f.k.a.: Curious Labs), but they are old and only work with Poser 4 PP and older versions of the supported apps.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

Exporting as wavefront objects usually helps. There is probably a wavefront object importer for 3ds max 6 available somewhere.

I would personally recommend Vue5. I sacked Bryce 5 as it doesn't even come close. I have no experience about 3ds or lightwave.
