I made this long dress, named the parts then loaded the bones of aiko 3.

Everything groups right but why at the bottom right after the hip ends it gets torn in the middle of the legs.

Should I had not included the shins?

This is the real screen shot on how the parts are grouped.

Help Please

Sincerely, Manuel

A body part may only have one parent. It can only touch the parent. Edit the skirt groups to only contain a hip which extends to the hem and two buttocks.

I would have made the buttock thigh and shin into one part called the thigh and the hip go down to the hem, but I have never made a skirt or dress that works properly (for me, at least it is very difficult to do without getting a split like in nio103`s picture).

Wish I'd known this before. So how then would you suggest making a long skirt that's opened in the front, from the hem to the propper waist? (meaning up to the part that would actually go around the waist) but connected right at the very top? E.D.

Whats a hem?

ok I renamed the abdomen and made it part of the hip.

and right thigh and right shin renamed and made it part of the rButtock. left side same process. but now I keep getting NO BONE>

Sincerely, Manuel
Please tell me whats a hem. what part of the manual is it in?

Xena ( ) posted Mon, 04 July 2005 at 8:21 PM

Make the entire skirt one single group (hip) and use either JCM (joint controlled morphs) or handles to make the skirt move. ED ... the same way I just described. There really is no better way to do long skirts than to make it all hip and use outside influence to make it move.

Xena ( ) posted Mon, 04 July 2005 at 8:22 PM

A hem is the section of a skirt along the bottom edge that 'finishes' a skirt. A lot of items in the store and free stuff don't have these and they look terribly unfinished and fake. I would suggest looking at some actual clothing to see how the ends of the material look so you get some idea of how to model them in.

Thanks xena,

so the dress should be one group called hip.

now where can I learnd about adding joint controlled handles to a skirt :/

I guess I need to learn how to add morphs to a figure first. But i think Its just sending the obj to the modeler, moving dots around without adding any and save it as obj and then load as morth from the drop down list of poser.

Sincerly, Manuel

If you can give me forder help send me a message ok.

You can use so-called "illegitimate children". At the bottom of the .CR2 you can find statements such as

weld lThigh:2
lButtock:2

weld lThigh:2
lButtock:2

weld lShin:2
lThigh:2

Now add the following lines under the last weld line pair:

weld lButtock:2
rButtock:2

weld lThigh:2
rThigh:2

weld lShin:2
rShin:2

Warning: this is a hack and could break your CR2. And it will only work when the lButtock and rButtock have vertices in common (which I think they do in your dress)

The body handle option is much better, though it requires a lot of tweaking of the joint parameters.

For longer skirts like these dynamic cloth is the very best. But that's only usable in Poser 5 and 6, so it may not be an option.
Edited to add: If you want to learn about figure creation, the book "Secrets of figure creation using Poser" by B.L. Render is a wonderful resource. It deals with morphs, welds, body handles, joint parameters, you name it.
