I've posted an idea for a project in the Art Theory forum that relates to writers. It is to have writers select an inspiring image and from the galleries and write a short to it. This is a good idea, both for practice for writers, and the chance for people who don't visit the Writer's forum to, well, visit it, and for writers to find new artists here. I'm in 100%

This is an idea that SirJohn sent me. what does everyone think? Instant Message from SirJohn: What I was thinking was for an image to be hand picked... any image in the galleries (with the exception of the bland and boring naked Vicki/front and center ilk), from any artist. The image that we decide upon we would post the link to and all of the participants would leave their short story as a comment on the artists image. Maybe somebody (or somebodies) could look through some images and post links to five or six and the participants (writers) could vote in the forum on which image to use. It could be a weekly or even a monthly activity. What do you think of that idea?

Good idea, now we have a formal "plan" for getting this started.

A bit of a clarification. This idea to me is an experiment in communications. There are images out there in the galleries that, "tell a story," to me. Or some just hint at a story. I find I want to know more when I see an image like that. Now the artist has already visually communicated something to us. But what if we add that something "more." It's like going at the "illustration" concept backwards. The image inspires what is written instead of what is written inspiring the image. I feel this would give many artists a better feel for the "illustration" value of their work. I would give writers a unique source of inspiration and practice in "writing to subject." Over all, I would like to see some sort of book come out of this. I know there is the talent in Renderosity to do a major collaborative, illustrated work.

Well, I would like you to know that Black Rain has agreed to be a part of this project. I would like all of you to go out and look at his work and come back with suggestions on which image you would like to work with. Second, I would like you to visit digitell's gallery and look over her work. Thirdly, I would like you to think of artists her at Renderosity whose work you think would lend to this and invite them to join this project. We will then move forward at first with SirJohns idea of a running story to one image. Actually I would like to see two or three images being worked with. I think this could be the basis for something monthly.

Check out i-popba's gallery, I think there are many images there which we could write about/to. Also, some of Predatron's stuff. Look up "Moon Pixie" as well.

Well, folks....I would like to announce that we now have an official go for a contest! :) But....with Siggraph coming up, it won't be until mid-August that the ball starts rolling. I want to thank you all for your patience and for your willingness to participate in this. I will keep you posted as this moves along.
