Subject: just how much can poser 4 hold

drag ( ) posted Wed, 06 July 2005 at 3:55 PM · edited Mon, 16 December 2024 at 12:28 PM

finding my poser 4 pose library is getting filled. Mostly with inj,rem and mat files. Now when I try to load anything from the bottom of the list it sends me to the top. I've had to clean it out for it to work. Has anyone else had this problem? And just how much can poser hold? Before I have to stop buying lol.

oh..well, I haven't made it that far yet, and please, anyone correct me, but..
I think there's a 256-folder limit in each of the categories..after that, it starts truncating (cutting off) parts of the name. Eventually, they get unreadable (at least by you..;) I've been told that you can stuff some things in the camera folder. Also, it will 'sort of' alphebetize items, with the ! character being on top (ever wonder why so many of your folders start with ! ? or !! ?..;)
We used to have occasional braggin' contests for the largest runtime (mine is a shamefully-small 1 gig, but then I'm running Poser 4 off of freebies..;) Stay tuned for more coherent and useful answers..;)

pakled is right, P4 only reads up to 256 folders, and MAT files can be renamed with the .cm2 extension and placed in the camera folder Unless you have (or intend to upgrade to soon) P5 or P6, hogwarden's PBoost can help solve your problems. It allows you to use nested folders in P4, and switch between them within Poser.

Attached Link: PBoost

The problem is that when Poser starts truncating the names you may find that the items last in the alphabet simply won't load anymore. You can see them but not access them As Modus0 said, you have two options: Get PBooose or upgrade to P5 or P6 (or do both, get PBoost and later upgrade, I'm still using my old Poser 4 Runtime, PBooosted, with Poser 6) In any case, PBooost is really worth it!

thats what happened it cut of part of the name. I didn't know the name[truncating]. Wow I can't believe I had that many folders lol. I incorperated alot of the injs, rems, and cleaned it out for now. But guess I better try PBoost because everything you buy now seems to go in your pose library. Thanks now I know not to over load my other libraries.

Has anyone seen where if you have too many poses in one folder, Poser5 doesn't display the thumbnails? It still show the descriptions.

Yes, there's a "feature" in P5 &P6 where Poser doesn't display the thumbnails if there are more than 100 in a folder.

However you can get around this by going into Runtime:prefs and opening the LibraryPrefs xml file with a text editor and changing the 100 in the line below (which is the first line with any real info) into any number you like.

LibraryPreferences curFolder="9" previewNum="100" limitPreview="0" doubleClickReplace="0"

However, I believe that changing it to anything above 999 causes the file to get corrupted every so often, losing all the information about the locations of external runtimes.

Edit: And P6 SR1 doesn't seem to like any number over 200.

Why not just check (for P6 users) the option "Never collapse thumbnails"? You reach there by getting to Edit/General Preferences/Library...
